The hamburger: the culmination of all human endeavor?
Despite what the history channel thinks, the hamburger is not the most historically influential food. However wrong their thinking was, an idea hit me. What could the hamburger stand for as a human accomplishment? The hamburger is the first truly democratic food. It enabled the common man to eat beef, scrap parts still, but it was the working man's steak. The hamburger is a child of the industrial revolution as well. Its popularity skyrocketed with the McDonalds' application of Henry Ford's production line which made more product for lest cost. It also fits the faster pace of life caused by the industrial revolution and the shift to consumerism by being portable between two buns. From the cooking of meat which enabled our ancestors to grow bigger brains, to the expansion of higher class foods to everyone, the hamburger embodies the whole if human achievement.
