How Can We Ignore Anymore?

Spent the last two days with freshman from the Patterson High School Academy of Engineering. Incredible kids who against all odds have made it to high school in Baltimore City, Maryland. Their stories would shatter your heart, they shattered mine. The odds of their graduating high school is 60% in one of America's top ten most violent cities. Their plight should cause us all shame! How we turn a blind eye to this genocide that is occurring in every poverty stricken, inner city in America is reprehensible. These young people have endured more than most of us will endure in a life time. Sadly, it is apparent that we just don't care, politicians and citizens throw money at the problem but it won't go away. This problem is a problem of the heart, it can't be paid off with cash. It can only be engaged by a caring heart, so can we really care for these hurting, suffering forgotten souls? Will we? Heart investment always costs! Are we willing to get real with our failure to care or will we just keep looking the other way? You tell me! Justify or engage? Our choice is obvious, but do we care enough to make the right, tough choice? Based on our history as a nation, we will take the easy choice, ignore, blame and self justify our way out of responsibility. Me I cannot and will not take the easy way out, these students are Americans, they are human beings, more importantly they are young people created in the image of God! I will do something! I will care! Will you? Remember Love Always Wins! So will you love or not?
