This Is Your Heart, Can You Feel It?
A/N: Hey people of the internet! For those who don’t know me, I’m Em, and I’m an everything blogger. When I heard about @letsgetoutalive ‘s Allies Challenge I went “That’s,,, actually brilliant.” As someone who resorts to fics when things get shitty and you really feel like you need a hug, this challenge seemed right up my alley. So enough with the prologue of the authors note, now to the real reason I’m putting this here. Disclaimers: I’m writing this fic based off my own feelings and experience. This is essentially how I get when I’m in a mood. I can’t attest to anyone else, but this is how I feel. Also like a majority of the Marvel fandom, I live in a universe where Pietro Maximoff didn’t die and the twins are happy. And this is my first reader insert, so I apologize in advance. (Post writing, I now seriously commend anyone who can write a reader insert, man these things are hard) This Is Your Heart, Can You Feel It? Steve had noticed it first. (y/n) was wandering the tower like a shell of herself. She was good at hiding it sure, but Steve had ultimately caught on. She claimed she was in a perpetual state of tired, but she was actually napping more frequently, and these weren’t 20 minute naps, they were hardcore “you went to nap at 2 PM its 6 what the hell.” He also noticed that she was hiding herself away more often. The others respected this, they all needed their alone time, but FRIDAY was having a hard time coaxing (y/n) out for food. Finally, after nearly two weeks, Steve decided to ask some questions. He found the Maximoff twins in the kitchen chatting about something in Sokovian. “Hey guys, have you noticed something off about (y/n)?” Steve asked. Wanda thought it over but Pietro answered. “Yeah, she seems off. Is she alright?” Pietro asked. “I’m about to find out, has FRIDAY said she’s napping?” Steve asked. “No, I think FRIDAY told Tony that she’s lying in bed watching YouTube.” Wanda said. Steve nodded, that was normal, but he wasn’t convinced she was okay. “Thanks you two.” He said. Steve wandered to the elevator when Pietro rushed in with Wanda in his arms. “We want in. Whatever cheer up plan you have.” Pietro said. Steve smiled and pressed the button that led to the personal quarters. The trio wandered to the door to find it shut. Steve knocked and shuffling was heard on the other side. They were greeted with (y/n) in sweats with messy hair. “Hey, did I miss a house meeting?” (y/n) asked as she messed with her hair. Pietro shook his head. “Do you mind if we come in (y/n/n)?” Steve asked. (Y/n) was immediately nervous as she let the three of them in. She and Steve were close, but not so close that he would break out a nickname that usually only Clint and Pietro used. She wandered back over to her bed and made sure the nest that she had been resorting to these past few days was presentable as she wrapped the comforter she slept with around her and put the wrappers on her dresser. Steve sat on the edge of the bed as the twins flanked either side of her. “What’s going on you guys? Who died?” (Y/n) asked. Steve cracked a smile. Moments like that proved that she was still in there. “No one died, I-” “We’ve been worried about you princessa.” Pietro said. “You haven’t been yourself lately.” “Thanks guys, but seriously, I’m okay.” (Y/n) said. “Bull, c’mon (y/n), we’re your friends. Tony’s not here.” Wanda said. She knew (y/n) was intimidated by Stark, despite the fact that she had no reason to be, Stark was quite fond of her and found her extremely intelligent. (Y/n) started messing with her bracelets and her hands. Pietro caught this and pulled her a little into his side. “Princessa,” Pietro muttered. “I’ve just been having a rough week, it happens.” (Y/n) muttered in return. Steve tilted his head. “What happened?” Steve asked. “Nothing, that’s the problem.” (Y/n) exclaimed. “I have no reason to feel this way, no valid suffering point! I just feel like I actually suck at being a human and I’m so damn tired and my stupid brain wants to throw me off a cliff and it’s just like I can’t throw myself a lifeline! Like I know it’s stupid, and I know that it’s not true, and I know it’s just misfiring but dammit, I can’t get myself to feel any other way!” She added. (Y/n) felt tears coming on, as they always did when she tried to explain this sort of thing. She fiercely tried to prevent them from coming out. Pietro pulled her tighter into his side. Wanda hugged her as well. Steve took her hand and squeezed it. “You can cry princessa, no one would hold it against you.” Pietro said. This was enough to push her over the edge. (Y/n) started crying, something Steve was pretty positive he had never seen her do. She always seemed like an indestructible, untouchable fighter who kept going. When really, she was good at hiding. Wanda hugged her tighter and Steve would occasionally give her hand a recurring squeeze. When (y/n) managed to calm herself down a bit she looked to Steve. “Why’d you come with them?” She asked. She assumed that the twins had sought her out. “He’s actually the reason we’re here.” Wanda said. “I noticed you’ve been off the past couple of days, and I thought it was high time someone checked up on you. I would’ve done it sooner, but I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just a fluke.” Steve said. (Y/n) briefly untangled herself from Pietro and Wanda and threw herself at Steve. He gladly accepted the embrace, holding her close. He could feel that more tears were coming on. So he rubbed her back and held her for a bit. “Thanks Steve. That’s the first time someone’s checked up on me.” She said when she untangled herself. “I wouldn’t be the Dad Friend if I didn’t.” He said mentioning the joke (y/n) would make when Steve would take charge of the group. She smiled and laughed a little. “Hey, I was gonna watch Tangled, you guys wanna stick around and watch?” (Y/n) said. “I’ll grab snacks!” Wanda exclaimed. “I’ll grab more blankets.” Pietro added. The twins ran out leaving (y/n) and Steve. “So what’s Tangled about?” Steve asked. “Not gonna tell you, you’re just gonna have to watch it with the rest of us.” (Y/n) remarked with a smirk. Pietro came back with blankets and pillows. Wanda returned with popcorn, candy, and chips. They all wrapped themselves in their blankets and spread out the snacks between them. (Y/n) popped in Tangled and they all settled in. (Y/n) leaned into Pietro and accepted the arm that was thrown around her by Steve, Wanda laid down in front of them all propping herself out with a pillow. The movie started and the four of them found themselves a bundle of laughs and terrible attempts at singing. By the time the climax rolled around, (y/n) was once more a bit more smiley than she had been and her drowsiness from the outpouring of emotions was starting to set in. She leaned into Pietro a bit more. Pietro chuckled and fell back, dragging (y/n) and Steve down with him. Wanda looked up from where she was lying and slid in between Steve and (y/n). Steve chuckled and turned onto his side slightly as Pietro did on the other end. Soon enough, the drowsiness vibes were too hard to deny and everyone slowly drifted off to sleep. Sometime later, Stark knocked on (y/n)’s door to find out if she knew where Steve went. When he got no answer, he poked his head in to find the super soldier he was looking for, the twins, and (y/n) in a pile of limbs all passed out. Stark chuckled lightly to himself, he’d wake them later for food, right now, he figured (y/n) needed all the support she could get. (Y/n)’s internal thought process, besides the screaming that she was cuddling with Pietro, was something along the lines of happy that she had friends to help her out. Sure, she knew it before the break down, but it was nice to be reminded sometimes. And she knew this wasn’t going to make everything just disappear, but it most certainly did help ease the weight. So when she briefly drifted into consciousness when someone opened the door, she figured it was easier to just keep sleeping. So she curled slightly tighter into Pietro’s side and fell back asleep. It was the best nap she had all week.
