Angel Claws, Page 72 Jean Giraud - Moebius
AI Art is Evil, AI Art is also (tragically) an Artform
I personally think the AI tool shouldn't have been allowed to exisist in the regard of art.
It did and does steal. If I tell Dall-E to create a drawing in the style of Moebius it'll do it and it will look freaking amazing (yes I mean it, you won't get AI-slop in that case). Moebius is dead now so it's even somewhat fine. But what if he hadn't died in 2012? What if he had seen how everyone can copy his unique style use his hard work in a matter of seconds? A million people. No copyright is able to keep up. I doubt he would have been happy. I hope this illustrates why I think it should be forbidden. On the other hand I have experienced AI-art being an actual new artform. It truly can be. There was a theatre adaption of Moby Dick. The whale in the book is a motif tied to mystery and otherwhordlyness. Something that somehow mirrors and knows you. The AI generated movie of whale images flowing into each other emphasized both the motif of the whale (in an absolutely dazzling display) and the human hubris of driving themselves into their own doom trying to reach new heights - with AI, drawing a parallelism to the message of the book. After that - sadly I couldn't stop perceiving AI art as an artform in itself, while I still think it should have never been unleashed in the first place.
This is an AI generated image in the Style of Moebius (it was the first thing I tried when the whole AI thing was new and shiny and fun)
This is someone making money off of it, see how it says buy for $3,75 !
And people literally can't tell as this comment underneath shows:
For comparision, this is an actual artpiece from Moebius (so all of you can tell the difference):
