Merry Christmas, everyone! Here is an obligatory Xmas drawing of Sofia & Moria sharing a tender morning moment :3 Moria got Sofia a really cute & awesome electric guitar which is really hard to draw so i ended up having to trace it please don’t hate me

I’ll be taking the rest of the year off from art so I hope y’all enjoy these cutie patootie furry girlfriends and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :D

Alright so just some developmental stuff: I’d originally planned on making this a really long heartfelt comic but then I remembered how I am with making comics and decided it would’ve taken WAY too long to have finished that because I draw so slowly & also I didn’t feel like it, so instead I just settled for putting all my effort into one image instead of half-assing several images. not the same impact as I originally hoped, but that’s an idea for another time. IMO the end result probably looks better than the comic would’ve because like I said, instead of half-assing several images I put all my effort into just the one, and that’s okay! I still don’t think I’m ready for comics, might never be, but I’ll keep trying.

Because this moment was supposed to be more heartfelt because of the comic’s structure, Sofia was supposed to be crying here. However I felt without the lack of context/buildup it just didn’t feel right, so I just went with a happy/excited expression.

Also brought back Moria’s outfit from Christmas last year! She loves that sweater and I saw no reason to change it. Changed the pants to blue though because otherwise there would’ve been too much grey and it would’ve looked boring. Also made the bed colors consistent with this! I have a mental image of what Sofia & Moria’s house looks like so I try to stay true to that mental image as much as possible. I also gave Sofia a pajama shirt that’s just a purple shirt w/ a bunch of bones on it which I was afraid were going to look like a bunch of dicks but it actually turned out okay lol. I also experimented with a couple different colors, some of which made it look like she was in a hospital gown so I tried to avoid those.

I also had the basic idea for this drawing in my head before I started so I tried to stay as close to that as possible. The main things I wanted to strive for was the sun coming through the window, the sliding window in the wall itself, and Sofia & Moria hugging in front of it with Sofia still in bed as if Moria came in and woke her up to give her the present. Basically what would’ve been the last image in the comic had I stuck with that idea. The final result is pretty accurate to what I had in my head so that’s great :D IT WAS REALLY HARD TO DRAW THEM HUGGING THOUGH CUZ I HAD TO THINK REALLY HARD ABOUT HOW THEIR ARMS WOULD BEND AND WHERE THEY SHOULD BE PLACED BUT I GOT IT FLKASJEFOSIEFJSLEKFASE

Like I said before the break, I did actually end up having to trace Sofia’s guitar because guitars were harder to draw than I thought ;u; so yea that guitar actually exists but I thought of the idea first, i googled images to get a reference and I found one that matched the idea i had perfectly but I couldn’t draw it myself so yea unfortunately I had to trace it if i wanted to be satisfied with it within the next century ;;u;; I might have Sofia playing it in future drawings maybe, we’ll see.

I also went with colored shading here again too instead of shading with black, I actually started out shading with black at first but then after I remembered shading with colors it was an immediate improvement. That was also somewhat taken/inspired by the same drawing I brought the bed colors over from. I think it’s pretty neat how a simple change like that can make such a significant difference :D

Anyway, that’s it for now! Overall I loved how this one turned out and I’m glad I finished it just in time for Christmas c:

ok so this was rushed but i’m glad i actually fuckken drew something lol

it was rushed until it was midnight then at that point it was going to be late anyway so i chilled tf out

i think moria’s eyes look wrong? idk i couldn’t fix it so fuck it

speaking of holding sofia is supposed to be holding moria’s arm/elbow but it definitely doesn’t look that way lmao but js in-case you couldn’t tell buT WHATEVER I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO OK

originally sofia had her arm wrapped around moria’s body but i thought it’d be cuter if they were holding hands/arms and also bc moria looked really uncomfortable and i didn’t want that so i did the arm hold instead

even though the shading was really rushed i thought it (at least on the characters) turned out really well, or at least really close to what i wanted it to look like so that’s neat

uhhhh i think that’s it! i wanted to do somethin simple & easy in hopes of finishing it on time but i didn’t but this still turned out good i think. thanks for reading!

trust me the filename is literally “firstdate.png”. please refer to this 100% canon ship as Mofia. yes because it sounds like Mafia.

I read somewhere that “if they have to kiss for you to know they’re in love, you’re not doing love right” so instead I did something else where Moria totally no-scopes Sofia right in the fuckin snoot w/ her ice cream because that’s some really cute & gay shit

does Moria pretend to miss licking the ice cream off her snoot and go in for the smooch? or does Sofia do a self-blep to make Moria laugh and damn near give herself a heart-attack? you decide.

this took 1,000 years to make because of the legs. it’s a long story. it was a bitch drawing the legs. ok story over.

I had to make up some ice cream flavors because all I know is that dogs can’t have chocolate but they can have ice cream to an extent. Sofia is a fictional dog so she can eat however much ice cream she wants. Sofia has peaches and cream swirl while Moria has cotton candy and raspberry because she’s fucking crazy

this looks really great to me but I have also stayed up all night to finish it so I hope i’m not delusional and this looks like shit when i wake up later.

this is also the first time I’ve drawn them together in their official/default outfits at the same time! isn’t that neato.

Update: I did a small modification where i lowered both their eyelids so it’s more realistic in the sense that their eyelids don’t meet at the middle but instead just the top one lowers. this is how actual eyelids work i just forgot lol. also changed Moria’s answer to sound more like a step and less like a process, also forgot i was supposed to do that lol x2.

Hey y’all so it’s currently 20 til 6 in the morning as of me writing that opening statement so i stood up all night drawing these gay cuties snuggling. I really, REALLY loved the shading here. I tried something new I’ve been itching to do where I stop shading with black. What was really fun here was that at first I was shading with a very desaturated bluish grey, which looked great, but then I remembered this was supposed to be in the early morning. Now what was really neat about this was that I just played with the hue and saturation sliders in SAI and made the colors more red. I only did the highlights at first which again, looked fine, but then I also made the shadows red and I think that sealed the deal.

I actually didn’t draw the highlights at all, I had the shadows as a “Multiply” layer underneath the highlights which were set as an “Overlay” layer. Now at first I tried to draw the shadows in above the highlight layer, but the problem was was that the shadow color I was drawing with wasn’t matching the first one. I fixed this by instead erasing parts of the highlight layer to reveal the shadow layer underneath since it covered the whole piece.

Honestly the more time I spent on this the better it got, at first there wasn’t going to be shading at all and it looked really boring, so I’m glad I was able to spice it up so much.

Also there were 3 additional panels of Moria opening her eye (1), looking at Sofia (2), and closing her eye again with a smile and blush (3), but I thought it looked better on its own without 3 additional panels that looked very identical except for 1 part making the post unnecessarily longer. Plus it was tough getting the lengths and line weights of Moria’s eye outline and lashes to stay consistent, and I liked the idea that they can remain peaceful like this for a long time better.

There also used to be a dresser with a lamp and a clock on it on the left along with a lot more empty space, but it looked bad from the top so I squeezed the canvas down a bit and took those out.

Another thing to note is that I made the carpet by taking a regular greyish-blue color, in Paint.NET, adding noise, then using “Fragment” to basically kaleidoscope the texture a bunch of times to make the noise a little thicker in some spots but not have as much noise. I think this helped making it look more like carpet so I should definitely remember that.

I hope you enjoyed this Mod Commentary, it’s a new thing I’m trying where I talk about the process and whatnot or some cool shit or whatever if it’s applicable but I do it under a break so I don’t make the post fucking huge for the people who just want a little caption.

PHEW it’s finally done just on time! I need to stop doing things like this because eventually I just want it done and get very lazy! I always love drawing my girls, though!~

ALSO I did a better job of Sofia’s character this time! As we can see here she is a very chill and cool doggo, but when Moria is near it gets difficult to resist her. Especially when she was not expecting that hug :3c SHE STILL HAS NOT CONFESSED THOUGH BECAUSE OF HER EVERLASTING FEAR OF REJECTION SO SHE’S GOTTA KEEP IT UNDER CONTROL >:3c

ALSO drew Sofia in what I consider to be her signature outfit, and Moria in a different outfit. This one, to be exact. Minus the Santa hat.

ALSO another thing, a few small changes I made to Sofia’s appearance:

Her eye circle is no longer pitch black, but instead the same dark grey as her ears, nose, and beans.

Her collar is now spiked instead of studded. It was studded before because I didn’t know how to draw spikes consistently at different angles but I figured it out c:

Her “signature outfit” consists of an outfit almost directly from my GTA Online character of the same name, AKA direct inspiration for the Sofia you see here.
