You know, I’m sorry I can’t shut up about her, but there’s something comforting about the thought that Moira would love the weird things about me and not love me in spite of them.
Moira turns her back on Talon, if just for a moment. ~1k words. Warnings for canon-typical violence, mild description of a serious wound, and Moira definitely threatening some poor fool.
“So, who are we gonna see today?” Cassidy asked, nudging Libra with a grin. “Think there’ll be anyone we know?”
Somehow, his question had captured exactly what was on her mind. The two of them were mid-flight, en route to interrupt anticipated Talon activities in Venice, but their intelligence didn’t include a single word on who was going to be involved. It would have been one thing for the former Soldier 24 or perhaps the Doomfist to make an appearance. Her concerns were elsewhere.
What if Moira appeared?
Would the woman who had held her the way she always did be able to coldly cut her down? Would she be able to do the same? Could she really hurt a woman who she loved more than anything?
She didn’t want to know.
Still, she forced a smile. “Hey, what if we run into the Doomfist? He might be there.”
Cassidy threw an arm around her. “Hey, if there’s anyone I’d want to see take him in, it’d be you.”
She laughed a little, but her gaze flitted to the window again.
For once, she hoped she wouldn’t see her.
~~~
In the blur of battle, Libra could hardly register any faces. Nameless body after nameless body would try to apprehend her, and she would put each one out of her way without thought as to who they were.
She didn’t have time to think. She just had to keep moving.
She caught a flash of silver as an agent she didn’t know drew on her, and she fired before he had a chance. Another tried to ambush her in the chaos, and with shaking hands, she fired at him too.
Her head was spinning.
She couldn’t see Cassidy. No doubt he had taken some of the Overwatch agents the other way. It was just her and a small group of agents trying to push through this side.
But what if someone-?
Suddenly she felt a stabbing pain in her right leg, and she struggled not to drop to her knees. Her head swam with pain. When had someone-? She whipped her head around and caught a glimpse of someone fleeing from her. Was that just a Talon agent? She could hardly think. Her body screamed at her to run.
Stumbling, struggling to stay up, she dragged herself into the nearest shelter she could find, ducking into a nearby building. Her legs gave out as soon as she stepped inside, and she fell to the floor. Slowly, she dragged herself to a corner, propping her back up against it.
For the first time, she had a chance to check her wound. Her blue uniform had already soaked through with blood. The side of her leg had been gashed open, but how, she wasn’t sure. Either way, she knew she couldn’t go back out there like that.
She looked around nervously. Was there a first aid kit nearby? Maybe Cassidy would find her here?
Footsteps, coming closer. She froze. If this had been the Doomfist like she had joked about earlier, this would be the end of her. Hell, maybe it was that agent, come to finish her.
Her heart squeezed in her chest when she saw a tall woman step into the room.
Moira.
Her face was calm and expressionless, but she could see something behind her eyes. Was she worried about her? Or was she here to end her?
“Quiet, my love.” Her voice was husky. “We wouldn’t want anyone to catch us here.” She knelt in front of her, between her legs. Now that she was so close, Libra could see her expression soften with concern. “Let me see.”
Her left hand lightly rested on the wound, and Libra couldn’t hold back a grimace, tearing up slightly. “Let me fix this, mo stór.” She didn’t think she had ever heard Moira speak like this before, to anyone. She hardly expected Moira to come soothe her, but her heart was fluttering in her chest.
Her hand began to glow, and her wound immediately felt very hot. Before her eyes, the skin seemed to stitch itself back together. She had heard so much about her passion for her research, and still, she had never had the chance to experience it.
To think she’d use it on her, here, as her enemy.
Soon, the wound had closed, and the bleeding had stopped. “Does it still hurt?” Her left hand moved to her face, catching a tear on the backs of her fingers. Libra shook her head. Was that relief in her eyes?
“Who did this?”
Libra opened her mouth, but her words caught in her throat. She shook her head again.
Moira’s expression darkened. “I will ensure they pay for this myself.” Her hand, now done with drying her tears, stroked her cheek. “I promise you, coínin.”
“Moira,” Libra found her voice returning. She had so much to say to her, but the only thing that came out was “thank you.”
She saw a flash of a smile as Moira leaned in, pressing a kiss to her lips.
Moira looked over her wound one more time before straightening herself back out. She stepped towards the doorway, before pausing and turning back at her.
“Stay safe, Mira.”
In a moment she was gone, as if she had blinked from existence. And, as if on cue, Libra could hear a familiar voice.
“Libra? Hold on, Libra, I’m coming!”
Cassidy ducked in through the doorway, glancing around quickly before stepping in.
“Libra! What the hell happened?”
Libra slowly rose to her feet, careful not to put too much weight on the injured leg. “They got me.” She gave him a lazy smile. “I don’t think they cut the skin very deep, but I don’t know if they got my bone.”
Much to her relief, Cassidy didn’t seem suspicious. “Let’s get you outta here, yeah?” He threw her arm over his shoulder. “Mercy’ll take good care of you.”
“Right.” Libra laughed, softly. “Let’s get home.”
Her mind, still, was on Moira. Her heart was racing, and she could swear she could still feel her lips on hers.
I know Moira is such a weird character to bring out my nurturing urge, but listen. I don’t think she’s really had anyone take care of her, and she sure isn’t taking care of herself.
