Some fun facts about Clove!
(...sorry some of these aren’t fun at all...)
He’s not on as bad of terms with his parents as some of the people that work at the temple, they haven’t disowned him or anything, but he isn’t on good terms either. He’s sort of the son they don’t talk about because his job is shameful. But he has gone home a couple of times.
Besides the services that the temple is more infamous for, the clerics there also do things like help bless weddings or do relationship counseling. Clove is good at those, but his real strength (besides... y’know) is matchmaking. He’s an extremely good matchmaker. Really really good at it.
He had a longterm primary partner who died... but not because of anything dramatic. They were human and died of old age (relatively recently) and Clove misses them but doesn’t regret loving them.
Poly as hell.
Switchy as hell.
Bi but not quite as dramatically bi.
Has very little self esteem. I don’t mean that he has bad self esteem (although that part is complicated), but that his sense of self isn’t very strong because a lot of the time he sees himself more as an instrument of his Goddess and less as a person. This got worse after his partner died.
He likes birds a lot. And also cats.
He doesn’t like things that smell bad, but knows how to hold his tongue about it.
Cuddling and casual affection are very important to him, and are in the category of things that he identifies with his personal needs.
He hates winter and will whine about it and sulk and be a big baby.
He likes good food, but if made to choose he’ll skip to dessert.
Genuinely that much of a romantic, although it gets stronger with people he has a personal attachment to. He doesn’t do it because he wants anything. It’s just how he is.

Okay so I think I’ve already told you about the pirate ex with the absurd over the top whirlwind romance based on glamor and drama and theft. (And they amicably called things off because Taako didn’t want to actually go out to sea. It was fun but not actually remotely serious.)
New guy stuff is under the cut because it’s longer than I thought it would be.
New old flame is Taako’s best ex. He’s an elven cleric... but he’s a cleric for Lastai the goddess of passion... and also love and marriage. He’s extremely charismatic and extremely kind. (...But if someone was playing this dude it would be all “I roll to seduce this character! I roll to seduce that one too!!!”) He’s in love with love and is a meddlesome matchmaker. He and Taako knew each other when Taako was trying to make it as a chef in a restaurant in the city his temple is in. In the end their relationship didn’t work because Taako couldn’t settle down and wasn’t really ready to be loved that intensely.
Taako, Magnus, and Merle run into him at some point before Magnus and Taako get together and Magnus is so insecure! He doesn’t know why he’s so insecure! But here is this beautiful, sensual, dorito shaped elf guy who is perfectly groomed and likes to walk around without a shirt on and apparently can just breathe on Taako in the right place to turn him into putty. And he’s nice and funny and “talks shop” with Merle and Magnus doesn’t actually have a real reason to dislike him.
Magnus totally dislikes him. Especially when he and Taako hook up again because elf sex is the best.
(Elf cleric knows what’s up with Magnus and he’s nice but not that nice.)
Anyway Magnus is stressed and upset for reasons he doesn’t understand and as they’re about to leave elf guy pulls Magnus aside and is like, “I know you have been hurt by a loss so large it feels like a wound that won’t ever heal. And you will never stop missing her. She will never stop mattering to you. But don’t close yourself off to love. You were created to love and be loved in return, and cutting that out of yourself is a great loss to the world. You are one of Lastai’s and She misses you.”
And Magnus is shocked and resistant and sulky but they continue talking a bit that essentially goes “I bet you say that to everyone, you’re a cleric,” and “No, I definitely don’t!” Magnus can’t stop himself from going, “Yeah, well what about Taako? Do you say that to him?”
“No, he’s not one of Hers. Love doesn’t come easily to him. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve it.”

omg omg yes pls talk about this forever. i give em a blue heeler/shepherd mix, a bull mastiff, and lucy the golden retriever, but i never thought of like. the kid-friendly doggos….
I give them infinite dogs because I want infinite dogs. (infinite yard of dogs.) But I will always have a soft spot for Lucy. (...I used to have a golden named Lucy.) Also I sort of imagine them living on a farm not far from a city. So they can get there pretty shortly but they also have a lot of space for dogs and kids and a big workshop for Magnus.
Dogs I want them to have :
Newfoundland (they are known to be great family dogs. Very loyal, very gentle. They’re sometimes referred to as the nanny dog. Also they have been used as rescue dogs and that would appeal to Magnus. Please imagine a little half elf toddler riding around on this giant dog’s back.)
Japanese Spitz (they are good for families but they are very energetic and love attention! They make good watch dogs because they bark. And being pretty and fluffy but also low maintenance seems like a thing Taako would like.)
Griffon bruxellois ( “They are not very patient but do love to play.” “They can get into trouble because they have no concept of their own relative size and may attempt to dominate dogs much larger than themselves.” Yeah I wonder why I picked this one. Not the greatest with little little ones but they’re pretty small and better with older children that know not to tease them.)
Old English Sheepdog (They are social but not to high energy and apparently they will attempt to gently herd children!!! How cute is that!?!)
Irish Wolfhound (They are often gentle and lazy despite their size. They are kind but more independent and less needy than some other dog breeds. They won’t guard a house but they WILL guard the people in it.)
Keeshond (They can be noisy and overly energetic but they are smart and good with children. They’re known as being one of the more empathetic dog breeds, and are one of the breeds used more frequently as comfort dogs. Good for people dealing with trauma.)
19. What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?
I can’t narrow it down to one so here’s a list: He doesn’t stand up for himself and that can be infuriating. (yes) He doesn’t open up about bad things happening to him and blows them off. (no, but that’s because people don’t know the full extent of things and he’s very good at repression) The whole sex work thing ends up being a huge problem for a lot of people because for some reason they think he’ll stop. (yes.) Those are the big ones I think.
(His temporary break up with Ambrose wasn’t about any of these.)
23. What does your character dislike in other people?
Cruelty... well, cruelty to others. He doesn’t mind a lot of flaws, even likes a lot of them. And he could forgive someone if they took all of their anger and viciousness out on him. But he can’t stand it when people are cruel to others. (Especially children.)
Also if they smell bad.
31. Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable.
Doing something familiar and routine at the temple. Chores and praying, probably, but maybe something else.
Or being curled up with someone he loves, platonically or romantically.
(...Or “making someone happy.” But that’s only comfortable some of the time.)
45. What does your character believe will happen to them after they die? Does this belief scare them?
You know the answer to this one!!!! He thinks he’ll go to the astral plane but he’s scared of what the people that he loves that have died will think of him.
(There’s actually a good chance he will be asked to serve Lastai in the afterlife, too. But he doesn’t know that.)
