I use the NABRE the most, since that's my study Bible's translation and I use it to plan the Bible study I lead, but my favorite is the ESV. There's a Catholic edition now!!!

Very fun to study because it’s absolutely insane. I wish I got to study more of it but alas a girl can only take a certain amount of credits and the paleontology class fills up very fast bc it’s so popular. And also I didn’t learn any of it before college bc of my high school’s insistence on sticking to a young earth creationist curriculum :/

2: do you mourn for a place or person you’ve never known?

I don’t think so

15: do you think you’re special, or just another person amongst billions? can you be both?

you can absolutely be both. every single person is unique, not just genetically but also in their lived experiences. everyone has special talents, unique weaknesses, and their own way of looking at the world. everyone has their own place in the world. in that way, yeah I’m special. but also my life is ordinary, and it will be ordinary. I’m not special in the way that I’ll like. cure cancer or make some discovery or something. I’ll continue with my mundane life and activities, but they’ll still be special because they are uniquely mine.

31: do you have a hunch about how you’re going to die?

yeah it’s probably going to be heart disease.

41: what fundamentally matters to you?

selflessness, I think, because it follows most directly from what I believe about God and the universe. at least that’s what matters in terms of principles. 

56: what do you think about artificial intelligence?

It has the potential to do a lot of good for humanity, but if we’re going to use it how we’re currently using tech, you know like alexa and stuff, then it’s better to not have it. also if it ever comes to the point where AI is doing all of our work for us, I think the only people who will benefit will be those at the top, those that own the AI. everyone else will just be jobless. but honestly I don’t think we’ll ever get to that point. at least not while I’m alive.

I met my two really good friends, friends who know literally everything about me, at college. We lived in the same hall freshman year – one was (and currently is) my roommate, the other lived in the dorm room next door.

What is your LEAST favorite (most cursed, most boring and utilitarian, interpret however you like) fact learned while studying bio?

very first ecology class we talked about the physical environment and....apparently the earth hasn’t always been tilted towards the sun the same way? this is called precession, and goes through a cycle of ~20,000 years where the magnetic north changes from pointing at the north star to vega. I know this is technically like. geology or something but I had to learn it in a biology class so.

☕️ online college (I can't imagine you, or anybody, likes it, but feel free to vent)

I mean yeah it sucks (Zoom class does suck and screen fatigue is REAL) but it has a few perks? Online labs means I can speed through a lab that would take me 3+ hours in real life in 45 minutes. I can watch a recorded lecture on 1.5x speed and get through it in 35 minutes rather than 50. It’s probably a little easier for me since I can actually be on campus soon and have a few in person classes, which is really helpful because being at home has such a different vibe. Like at least I can go to the library even if I have to wear a mask the whole time. And it’s not like I had a great social life before the pandemic? So that hasn’t really suffered except I haven’t seen one of my really good friends in almost a year. Which sucks BUT I’m going to see her this weekend!!!!

Also a few of my classes have had open book + note exams now which is very helpful ngl, even if they’re a little harder.
