Moon Sweep by OddMott
When I first came to dA in 2010, as a scared novice teenager, I had no idea where I was in the world, what I was doing, nor any friends to help me out. I felt rather isolated from the community so to speak.
Then I made my first friend here on dA, and that friend was Emmi-kat. Out of nowhere, she came into my art life, and has provided me with more support, encouragement, and overall friend-stuff than any friend I had ever had (with maybe a few exceptions), and when all is said and done, she’s still here, and just as kind and dear a friend as she was when I first met her.

Why is the backstory important to this piece? Well, when I first met her, she had a piece called “Moon sweep” on display at her front page. I always admired it’s infinite complexity balanced with elegant form and soft color tones. From that point on, I always associate her with that particular piece. In fact, whenever I think of “Artwork on dA” in general, or of “my personal favorite art pieces,” Emmi’s “Moon sweep” immediately comes to mind.
So when an instructor asked us to create something colorful and personal as an opening project for his class, I thought it would be nice to do a sort of homage to her ‘moon sweep’, by creating one of my own.
The only wrinkle to the design was to ‘use a selection of your favorite colors,’ so I did. I was also going to include pink, but I think it would have clashed with the color palette, so I subbed it out for a mid-tone green (it’s kinda hard to spot). A new take on an old classic, and I hope you all like the results.

Emmi, this one’s for you. Thanks for being such a good friend to me, and may we have even more years of fun awesome friendship to with it!

Ps; if we’re really lucky, we could start a new art trend with this! XD
