sabrina never tricked herself into believing that she would marry for love. it's always been known that she would marry whoever was the most advantageous. when she met her fiance she immediately knew that there was no love between them, more coldness than anything else, but she also knew he was the one she needed to marry. her father favored him, and he was just the right person to help her enhance her legacy. sadly, these facts didn't stop her from falling in love with somebody else. he's the only one who can make her chest pang with such simple words, expression cool even as she feels herself torn up inside. "why shouldn't i marry him?" she responds, tone icy and harsh. "he's perfect for me. and what does it matter to you, anyhow? it is none of your business."

"oh right." awkward by nature, he doubts it's a smart idea to ask questions; to delve deeper and get into the intricacies of the man's relationship with his parents. "sorry. i was just trying to get a few measurements down. it took me longer than i'd like to admit to work out that measuring an area for a new piece of furniture is paramount every single time...serves me right for being so arrogant, i suppose" cue the chuckle, entirely void of humour. "what are you doing here then if uh...you're not supposed to be, either?"

The fact of the matter was that Jasper wasn't supposed to be there. He doubted his parents would be pleased (not that that wasn't anything new) knowing where he was or who exactly he was with. No, to his parents, they'd all but wrapped up his life with a shiny bow and expected him to comply to their whims and demands. One of which the type of people he was supposed to be associating with--people not like them. Why? Well he was sure there was a long list of absurd and ridiculous reasons, but the main one was this: They hadn't approved of it prior. And god forbid it wasn't taken as some gospel truth. Whatever. It didn't really matter to Jasper. He hadn't listened to them as a teen, and he sure as hell wasn't going to now. He draped an arm over their shoulder, pulling them closer to his side. "So I was thinking..." he began, nervously bouncing his leg. "That I skip that fundraising event my parents have insisted on making me attend and do something with you instead."

Catalina pinched the bridge of her nose to try and dispel some of the tension she could feel building behind her eyes. "Lincoln, you can't just sabotage my car when you don't agree with a decision I made about my job," she tried to stress the point to him the first they argued. He hadn't agreed, of course, as was his right, but she didn't think he would resort to this. "I have to lead this assignment because it was given to me by the director of the CIA," she continued to stress, all while glaring at her husband. "You know why I can't just not report to my job, right?" There would be questions that she couldn't give answers to. "Lincoln!" She shouted his name to make him look at her, and when he did, she tried pleading again. "Please, you have to see reason here," if it was found that she was married to him, there would be chaos. The CIA would never believe her if she said she didn't share confidential information with him. They would question everything, torture her, and use her to get to him, and she didn't want the last option at all. "I can't just not go because you don't want to. That isn't how this works. I will get to work one way or another," he knew who and how she was. Stubborn through and through. Especially when she had already made a decision.

"Don't you trust me?" She knew her target was dangerous, but that was part of the job.

"yeah, sure! i'm sure he wants to talk to you." under other circumstances scarlet might even be happy for the assistance, but she and her boyfriend (ex?) have already been on the rocks. they're always on the rocks, actually, it's their third break up this month. she reaches out and grabs his arm when he starts to turn, trying to keep the gangly man in place. scarlet has no faith in the stranger, thinking he'll likely do more harm than has already been done. his comment quickly has her letting go, eyes narrowing. "you don't know anything about our chemistry." it hurts because it's true, because everyone can tell that her own boyfriend doesn't like her or care about her. "i wasn't uncomfortable. you're very bad at reading body language. i hope this taught you a lesson."

There were many reasons Asher didn't want in on this deal, many reasons that were valid and that had been discussed in length when the deal had first came up. And maybe his arguments had felt weak because they were not the main reason he didn't want to get in business with them. Asher knew what they had done to Danielle's father and he didn't care how good this could be for him and the family. This was a betrayal for her and it was the only thing that mattered to him. Even if he knew it shouldn't be an issue, it was. Not that he told anyone, not even her as she stood there, in all her righteous anger. He saw the way his words reached deep inside of her, how he was acting like she was at fault. This was far from what Asher wanted her to feel but it had to be. The man felt like he had scold her, put her in place and the woman who stood before him was hurt and it was because of him. He wished he could take it back, take Danielle in his arms and tell her that he would make this right. "As much time as needed for this to be done before anyone start asking questions or running their mouth," he said exasperated, not at her but at himself. Not that Danielle would know the difference. "It was sensitive and I couldn't talk. You understand that, right?" As much as he hated it, his loyalty was not to her. Everything she was saying, Asher had said before the deal was done. He truly thought it was a bad idea but he couldn't tell her, at least not yet. "We made sure they can't go back on their words." It was sad and bad to say, but everyone had learned the bad way to deal with them. And if Asher couldn't make this thing go away, he had made sure that nothing could happen because of them. "I know," he said voice softer this time. "I know what they did."

"or do you have private chefs that do that sort of thing for you?" her tone was teasing, a laugh slips past her lips.
