Mirror world au where rodya is herself but asexual. She still wears tight fitting clothes and shows cleavage; she still walks and talks all the same, but she’s just…not into sex and has happy and fulfilling romantic relationships despite of that.
I think we lack representation in media, head cannons, aus, etc where we have beautiful, hot, confident women who dress well and dress how they’re comfortable while being asexual.
Rodya can be her and be asexual. They can coexist and I think it’s wonderful. She doesn’t suddenly become a nun, and she doesn’t suddenly become someone who shames others.
I think her need to feel special and her need to be different and admired and cool and loved could all pair so well with an au where she wants and demonstrates how you can find fulfillment for all those things under the asexual umbrella.
You want to be loved? Then you get a hug. Want to be special? Here’s a kiss on the cheek, maybe platonic, maybe more. Want to be the center of attention? Lets sit side by side and listen to your favorite song.
So much of what I interpreted as rodya’s wants throughout her canto can be seen under this umbrella which is why I hope to see more aus of her being asexual (fingers crossed). I’ll try to put one out (im so lazy and forgetful tho so idk)
I'm getting through some queer films, as one does, and just thinking I need transmasc content. I love seeing drag, queer relationships, and rep of transfems growing. But as a transmasc enby person, the fact that the main rep people think of for our side of things is Boys Don't Cry... doesn't sit right
“I hate how Winx merchandise only uses Bloom, Stella and Flora, what would it cost to display all the damn group on a diary? All the other girls barely get merchandise except for dolls and it's very bad for kids who like the other girls, especially non-white kids who relate to Aisha and Musa, they won't even be able to find costumes of their favorite characters, Precure and other magical girls all equally represent their members” -Anon
I need a show that's Schitts Creek but with AFAB/enby relationships. Like...the same amount of love and adorableness and wit that is David and Patrick, but not men. Cause my female self and my enby pansexual spouse could use some more representation.
Edit: it's been brought to my attention that I shouldn't have used AFAB when I mean women. My full intention was to show that I want a show with the same love that David Rose and Patrick Brewer have (with appropriate amount of wit) but with women which includes trans women AND nonbinary individuals. While all Queer representation is important, most stories right now focus on pretty limited things like two white men being together or coming out, few trans, and some drag stories. Our lives are much more diverse and rich than that. And it's important to have that richness on television. Thanks.
I was in a writing discussion not too long ago with a lot of other queer writers, and one of the things we were talking about was which was better and more helpful in terms of representation: stories about being part of the LGBT community, in which that is the focus, or stories in which there are queer characters, but it is normalized and there isn’t a big deal made about it.
There were some convincing arguments made for both sides.
On the one hand, some people had the opinion that it was important to write more LGBT-centered stories. This is because for the most part, LGBT identities tend to be underrepresented and a greater presence in books and other media would help expose more people to the idea that it’s not a bad thing to be queer. It would also bring a focus to what it is like to live in a cishet-normative society (cishet = someone who is straight and identifies with their gender that was assigned at birth) as a person in the LGBT community, which can be an experience that many cishet people aren’t really familiar with. It can help bring empathy from people who are not in the community, and hopefully help to curb some of the homophobia and transphobia, both of which come largely from a place of not understanding.
On the other hand, some people had the opinion that it was important to write LGBT characters in non-LGBT-centered stories. This is because it’s a lot easier to normalize something if it’s seen as normal. Being queer isn’t someone’s whole life: it’s a piece. An important piece for many, but it’s not the overarching center of who someone is. If all the representation is centering on LGBT-ness, then it will always stand out, and won’t become normalized. By normalizing the queer experience, it can help show people that being queer can coexist with other personality traits. It can be good representation for people in the LGBT community who want to see someone like themself represented in a book.
(what conclusions we came up with & why this is important under the cut + tl;dr. press j to skip)
What we came up with is that it shouldn’t be one type domineering over the other, but rather that we need a greater abundance of BOTH stories. We need stories that show what it’s like to be queer. We need stories that show what it’s like to be in a society that accepts LGBT people. We need stories so that LGBT people can see themself. We need stories that show others that it is okay to be LGBT. We need STORIES.
Because when it comes to the debate of why it should be one or the other, that is a red flag that their is not enough of either. You shouldn’t have to pick and choose. There should be enough representation that representation is a given.
For example. Think of how many books are about a straight romance. Now compare that to how many books are about a gay romance. Think about how many books include a straight romance. Now compare that to how many books include a gay romance. The difference is staggering. Almost every book I’ve read has at least a little bit of straight romance. But I have to search to find a book that has a gay romance. Really, the numbers should be much closer. So complain all you want about “the queers shoving their content down your throat.” Just remember that for every piece of LGBT content, there are dozens of pieces of cishet content.
(TL;DR: There is a noticeable deficiency in how much LGBT media content there is, especially compared to cishet content. It should not be a debate over what type of rep we should settle for, because there should be ample amounts of whichever types we prefer. Asking for a fraction of the representation cishet people is not shoving our content down other people’s throats)
