February 10th - After Effects morph

I attempted to take a second attempt at doing my after effects animation and sort of gave up halfway through. I didn’t really like my choice in film but I couldn’t come up with any other ideas I felt comfortable with. I think this could have been avoided if I put more time into the initial exploration part of the creative process. I feel like my inexperience shines through really brightly in this part of the unit and that I should have reached out for more guidance with it.

I don’t feel like I took very well to initial lessons too and I think that really set the negative tone of the overall project. I found that I was getting lost even when we were covering the basics. I really should have put more time into familiarizing myself with the program.

 Overall, it just really didn’t go very well.

January 23rd - After Effects Morph

Well. This came out terrible. 

I can confidently say that my after effects morph was the week point of this project. I kind of don’t even know what to say. There’s so much wrong with it. 

The timing is really off. 

The movements are stiff and jerky. 

I don’t think it communicates it’s film particularly well. 

Not too sure about my use of colour in this.

Overall it’s a hot mess.

November 29th - After Effects Intro

So I can definitely say that I’m not the biggest fan of after effects. I feel as though the learning curve for animating in AE is a bit steep. I find that I’m struggling a bit to adjust to Adobe in general. It just means that I need to devote extra attention to getting the hang of it though as I do understand that it is the industry standard tool-set.

We discussed the core features of AE which would allow for animation today and further discussed the prolific application of AE in the production of motion graphics that are commonly used for advertising and such. Today was mostly a day geared towards familiarizing ourselves with the use of After Effects.

We covered the basic functions of creating solid and shape layers and how the various tools and settings available in the program allowed for animation. We started tackling the idea of a morph animation by turning a square into a circle into a square and were shown a variety of ways to do so. 

We were also made to start story boarding for our morphing animation and generally try to come up with ideas for our animation. Our prompt was to choose 2 objects from a live actions film and have them morph into each other. We were given a limit of 4 colours and I felt extreme jealousy over the fact that last year’s group got to do this project in TVPaint... 

The list of films I considered doing were: 

Stranger Things  The Chronicles of Narnia Mars Attack  (I honestly really struggled to come up with something. This whole project had me drawing blanks) 

I think I’m generally really uncomfortable and not super confident about this project. But I understand that I need to produce results regardless.
