MORZOUKSNICK
Jason Mantzoukis /Seth Morris / Nick Kroll
Another brush with fame for ol’ LucilleBruise!
Last night I attended the closing show of SF Sketchfest, which was MorZouksNick! A hilarious improv show starring our faves, Seth Morris, @nickkroll, and my inexplicable comedy crush, Jason Mantzoukas.
Well friendos, this was an audience participation kinda show, and the question of the night was “weird/bad breakups”. As soon as I remembered I had a story, I jumped at the chance to tell it.
Jason came over to my section, handed me the microphone, and you guys... I have never been more star-struck in my entire life. These are dudes whose lines I quote incessantly, whose characters I adore, and whose gifs I use a little too often in casual internet conversation.
I, a 35yo woman with a “business career” and like, responsibilities and shit, trembled like a leaf as I recounted how a boyfriend dumped me the day before we were meant to drive up to Portland (Oregon, not Maine!) together for a group trip. He did so by ignoring me all day, and then sending a breakup email and a venmo payment for $800 (so i could buy a plane ticket and go on the trip with my friends). I answered some back and forth questions from Nick, Seth, and Jason, and later the information was incorporated into a sketch (which was actually very healing, thanks comedy!).
I am someone who has partied with rockstars (are belle & sebastian rock stars, or just 15 scottish kittens in several overcoats?), and casually asked Neon Indian for a drug hookup at a bar a few weeks ago once. I have seen the inside of green rooms, and watched concerts from the wings.... but guys. This was electric. I was star struck, and I kinda just wanna thank those dudes for being cool about my story, and the hilarious follow up questions, and honestly helping me heal a pretty fucked up wound.
Later, they were asking about meet-cutes and love stories, and I thought about how it would’ve been such a power move to bring him back over and say, “well, I met the love of my life at a comedy show... he handed me the microphone when I told the story of my weirdest breakup...” I didn’t do that though.
ps. @la-animaux was there and can confirm
