I really like this. Of course, it's gotta be fuzzy. Can't have a moth monster without it being fuzzy as hell.

Funny that a moth was brought up because Orion and I were just watching Inuyasha with the moth daiyōkai, Gatenmaru. XD

I was asked to reblog this so, here we go! The post I commented on doesn't want reblogs but this was on Real_Camera's theory about Gem being akin to a butterfly and causing a butterfly effect when she joined in SL, so go read that nice nugget of lore theory!

I'd like to take this idea a step further and purpose that Gem, by cause and effect, broke the Canary Curse on Jimmy, but since Mumbo died in the overworld right after Jimmy, and Lizzie died in the Void, a protected space, Mumbo took on the curse.

But it's different now. It's now the Moth Curse because people often canon Mumbo as a moth and it fits him well. Mumbo tends to be attracted to 'dangerous' individuals as a moth is attracted to flames and lights in general. For the most part, it's fine till he finds himself attracted to a open flame... And if we look at Secret Life, after Mumbo died, there were a lot of betrayals and let down guards. Tango died because he literally turned his back on someone known to be unhinged in the finale, Scar. There was no good reason to trust him so much, outside simply giving up.

And look at how the roommates simply fell apart at the end, each scattering and doing their own thing while taking unnecessary risks. Grian knew he wasn't going to survive a 1v3, if his trap failed. Especially not with Gem in the mix. Etho simply ran from Scar which never works out for him... He knows this but still did it anyway.

I feel the Moth Curse, instead of triggering chaos and bloodlust, will trigger more devious and tricky behavior like betrayals, lies, and traps.

As the flame tricks the overly trusting moth into its demise...

I feel it's different because Jimmy is more Impulsive and energetic, hence the chaos and bloodlust, whereas Mumbo is more calculating yet anxious, hence deception and paranoia being in the mix.
