Okay so I just found out that mothcore exists and well
I am just happy that there’s such a thing because moths are very important to me for spiritually personal reasons y know (and also they’re cute and it’s such a nice aesthetic) ✨
moths are much cuter than butterflies tbh
To the entomologists/moth enthusiasts of tumblr:
I am working on making jewelry in one of my courses, and have decided to make a pair of moth earrings. Unfortunately, my university no longer has an entomology professor, so there isn't really someone to ask irl for cool moths to consider basing the earrings off of.
If I know anything about this place though, the nerds are everywhere, and as a nerd myself, I know I'm usually super excited to talk about things that I find fascinating.
So, if this post doesn't just die in my usual graveyard of 0 notes, and does in fact reach even one entomologist or moth enthusiast, let me know of your favorite moths, or ones you think would go great on hand sculpted earrings! (barring the moths that are already really well known, primarily luna moths, rosy maple moths, and atlas moths).
The main thing I am considering is that I plan to have one moth with the wings fully spread, and one moth with the wings folded on its back, because I also like having non-matching earrings.
This is an open invitation to info-dump about your favorite species of moth, I absolutely want to see it!! And after the earrings are fully done, depending on if this actually goes anywhere, I'll share a picture of them!
