work sketch of Alfeid, a Mountian Lazurek friend of Chet’s. She helps Aldwin out pretty early in the story. She’ll probably show up later in the story as well since I enjoy drawing Mountain lazureks.

Layridin concept art sketches done during down time at work.
Left is a design for a character intended to show up in chapter 3 of my never-gonna-happen comic "Layridin Journeys" Right is concept design for "The Old King":
There is a legend in the land of Layridin. One initially started among the Mountain Lazurek, of a great king, his name lost to the ages, but he is known by many titles; "The Old King," "The Giant Among Giants," "The Father of the Mountains," "The Legend." A giant in stature, even among other Mountain Lazurek, he possessed unparalleled strength, stamina, and endurance, three traits that Mountain Lazureks respect above all else. His Molten Blade, a large, magic two-handed blade of unknown origins, once drawn from its scabbard erupts into flames. It was rumored to have been gifted to him by the goddess Nalos herself, or possibly ripped from the very chaos of the burning depths themselves. The Old King was the ruler of the first Mountain Lazurek kingdom, and established laws that formed modern day Mountain Lazurek society, and the first to ever tame the majestic and powerful Ironwool beasts (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9397474/) His kingdom under siege by invading Hat'kal from the east, betrayed by his own son, literally stabbed in the back, the Old King donned his distinctive mask fashioned from a would be Hat'kal assassin, strapping his shield to his back covering his still fresh wound, he rode to single-handedly face the invading army. With arms open wide, he bellowed a challenge to the enemy leader, Necalli, questioning his courage. Outnumbered, the Old King bravely stood against the on rushing army, setting stone clad soldiers ablaze with every swing of his mighty blade until the Hat'kal lord finally rose to face him. Necalli's mighty blows struck the Old King from the back of his mount, sending him hurtling to the ground. Though Necalli had thought his foe slain, and his prize free for the taking, the Old King rose to his feet once more and drove his blade deep into Necalli's core, setting his very being ablaze denying him the right of joining his ancestors in the sacred grove. Their leader, and most of their forces slain, the Hat'kal broke and retreated back to the east. Disgusted by the cowardice of his kinsmen, and the betrayal of his own flesh and blood, the Old King rode off into the wilds. No one really knows what became of him. But his story has spread far and wide resulting in many imitators of nearly all races/ species. People seeking to capitalize on the fame or infamy of the Old King fashion armor to resemble his, some even going so far as to commission a large two-handed Magma Blade from the Gin'Seron clan (magma) Lohrkes to recreate the fabled Molten Blade. In this respect, some may say his legend never dies.
