I think i like the martian book more than the movie, because the book has more faith in humanity. The movie Mark felt more like he was surviving on his own; in the book, even when he didn't have contact, their were hundreds of people doing their very best to save him and the book didn't let you forget that
Rich Purnell is so me-core 🔥
Just started and iconic first lines tbh
Reality is Not What It Seems by Carlo Rovelli
Rating: 8 and a half out of 10
Really enjoyed it! I have a clue about what quantum mechanics are but not a big clue because my brain is a little soupy
Short Review: Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Rating: 9 out of 10
Really enjoyed this one! Some really interesting ideas about how different creatures may approach scientific and religious thought. Pretty easy feeling read even for 600 pages; didn't feel like it dragged at all to me
Book 7 out of 40 i want to read this year
Short Review: Return of the Gar by Mark Spitzer
Rating: 5 and a half out of 10
Honestly nothing really wrong with this book just not what I was hoping I guess. I think I was looking for something more facts-focused, while this was a lot more of the author's personal journey with gar. If you enjoy reading about fishing this might be a good pick for you tho.
Book 6 out of 40 I hope to read this year.
Trying to read more actual books instead of using all my reading braincells for fanfic of dubious quality SO I will be (retroactively) setting myself a 40 book reading goal this year 👍
What I've Read So Far (That I Can Remember):
An Immense World by Ed Yong (half points i guess since I started it in December?)
Tokyo Express by Seichō Matsumoto
The Martian by Andy Weir
History of Life in 100 Fossils by Aaron O'Dea and Paul D. Taylor
Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green
Not bad but I can do better!! Hoping to stick to this goal throughout the year
