Happy international women's day! Today my movement month will focus on Sylvia Rae Rivera. Thought to have thrown the first stone at the Stonewall Riots, this woman was an amazing activist for trans rights helping found Liberation Front and Gay Activist Alliance. She also co-founded Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries, a group dedicated to helping and housing trans youth of color. Known as "the mother of all gay people" she was an activist from the civil rights movement, all the way to her death in 2002. They were the epitome of equality, fighting for justice in the most marginalized communities.
