PokemonGo! for the Presidential Election
What is it? SwingVoter Go!, a social media game produced by MoveOn.org in collaboration with famous game designer Jane McGonigal. Using Facebook, the game enables players to identify their friends and family in swing states, and provides “lures” to engage them in political conversation and convince them to dump Trump.
It’s good because it capitalises on the success of PokemonGo!, utilising a format which appeals to a very specific side of the electorate. It allows players to add swing voters to their “Voterdex”, and throw “Swingballs” (prescripted personal messages) at them, then track how their swing voters are doing. The aim of the game: get them to vote, to stop Trump winning the presidency.
