 never thought to tell anyone that he’d be going away - aside from putting in his leave at the hospital, he’d always assumed that no one would care anyway.  That being said, his trip to New York ended up longer (and messier) than he’d expected. It was somewhat refreshing to step back into the shoes of being ‘Carter Kim’ though: accompanying Bree on her ridiculously extravagant grocery trips and taking her to their favourite restaurant over in East Village.

Being back in Mount Phoenix though, he was surprised at where his thoughts had immediately landed. He hadn’t even stopped by at home yet but instead found himself at Ahri’s apartment, his luggage in tow and looking worse for wear with a bruised cheek and busted lip - only half healed since Bree’s fucker of an ex-husband decided to get into a fight with him the night before he left.

He knocked, wondering whether Ahri would have even noticed he’d been away.

Ahri's mouth dropped open before she clamped down hard on her lower lip. She tried to make sure her expression as neutral as possible even as she felt her lungs constrict and spots of red appeared in her cheeks. Trying to maintain her professionalism, she gripped the small notebook in her hand and forced herself to meet the MPPD's chief's eyes.

"I just want an official statement. My...my...contact...contact..." She shook her head, as if it will get rid of the resurfacing stutter. "Jordan Lee...what happened to him?"

admittedly he simply didn’t feel up to talking about lee jordan any more than he’d already done. the whole council knew of his actions and his demise, and osiris had eventually been given the green light to do as he pleased once more, because jordan’s death had been ruled a necessary evil. the amount of people saved with the man gone was bigger than the amount of people impacted, and since osiris had no intentions of going on a crazy demigod-murdering rampage, that was that.

to have this young girl with her notebook and pen try and get the latest scoop on it definitely does not make him like her very much right now.

“i heard you the first time,” he says with a tight-lipped smile that is as polite as he can manage it in the moment. “and i have told you that i won’t comment on the matter. if you’d like to get information on the lee jordan case then you should speak to a member of the council, i’m sure they’ll tell you all you need to know.”

"Peace?" Ahri mused thoughtfully. She had wandered over to Foiseach, partly to get away from all the deadlines at work, and partly because Airmid's place had always given her a sense of serenity that reminded her of her old home. It also helped that there was always a calming presence upon Airmid that Ahri had never felt with the other Celtic gods she encountered, least of all her father.

"Can I hide out here today?" She asked a bit hopefully. "I don't mind being put to work."

she has no clue what to think or feel about the young woman standing opposite her, as she has no idea what exactly continues to lead the young woman to her store. as it is, the answer to her question gives her enough of a reply, she presumes. isn’t everyone looking for a moment of peace in the otherwise busy maelstrom of their lives? so she can understand that, at least, the plants and the gentle but present scent of herbs must be a relief to those who did not grow up in a city, who do not favour the tall buildings and asphalt roads the way others do. and so she accepts the explanation as is.

the question of hiding out, however, is a different one entirely, and though the girl says she doesn’t mind being put to work - becoming useful - she doesn’t know if that helps. what could she possibly let this young woman do, after all? there is nothing in her store that she would so easily give out of hands to another person, and especially not when she does not know that person much at all.

“you can stay if you’d like,” she eventually says, and she finds herself thinking that just a year ago she might not have allowed it at all. the things her daughter has changed in her are endless, it seems, and she can’t help but smile softly at the thought of the young woman so very much like herself who had gone to discover the continued course of her life after the loss of such a close friend.

Faster than a bullet | Hwiyoung & Ahri

Hwiyoung had never been a fan of work functions, but the hospital charity gala was a yearly event that his superiors would never allow him to skip. In his years as a resident, he’d spent most of the night sipping champagne and silently scanning the room with a flame of ambition burning just below the surface. Now that he was a surgeon though, it seemed that more eyes were on him - as though he had more value with his new title, though the stain of being his father’s son would forever taint his achievement.

Looking clean cut and a deceivingly picturesque image of a true professional, Hwiyoung had switched his doctor’s coat for a sleek pin stripped suit and a black shirt, carefully offset with a white tie. His long hair was pushed back, showing off his chiseled, sharp features. He carried a look of quiet disinterest though, deeming the night a waste of time until his he saw a familiar figure - Ahri.

A smirk curved at the edge of his lips as he approached the older woman from behind, leaning over to whisper in her ear, “Noona, you didn’t tell me you were coming tonight.”

This was one of those things where Noel had to agree to disagree. He wasn't the best person to talk about such a topic to, not when he's had to do pretty awful things to survive in a world that apologized to no one. "That is true, yes." He hummed, taking a bite of his blueberry muffin. Its taste was sweet compared to his opinion on the matter.

Noel wasn't someone opposed to talking and sharing his thoughts on topics such as that one, even if his answers might not be the most appropriate. It was interesting to hear what others that walked a less troubled path had to say about things that in his mind, weren't black and white.

He hadn't had an easy upbringing, and sadly, some sort of violence always took place in every part of his life. Noel did many things he wasn't proud of, but he did what he had to do to survive. Violence wasn't something that came naturally to him, but having been forced to enact it didn't give him much room to argue against it. "Violence isn't the best, but for some it's an inevitable choice in a world born from it."

Angela sat beside Ahri as she sat outside on the curb. Angela had spoken to the demigoddess several times, though for more professional reasons. But when she saw the other in distress, it would have been very unlike herself to leave her alone and without someone to provide some sense of comfort. Angela would be there for anyone. 

She wrapped her arm loosely around Ahri’s shoulder in a way that let the other know she was free to move if she wasn’t comfortable. “I am sure we can figure something out.” She states, looking at Ahri with some concern. Those words sounded rather cryptic. “Why don’t we come up with something?”

“How do I overthink so much and still make the wrong decision?”

Closing time at the Flower Mill was always interesting. Something about the tranquility of the cafe in the evening seemed to inspire introspection, Sakura was beginning to discover. Like tonight, when she was just going about her business cleaning off the tables and one of the last lingering customers hit her with quite the question.

It was probably more rhetorical than anything else, but it seemed to be a rather desperate one, so she decided to try to pull out a suitable answer - best she could, anyway, because she was hardly the right person to be consulting about something that deep.

"Maybe you're not thinking the right thoughts? Like, coming at it from the wrong angle and overthinking the wrong things? Or maybe it's not something you can overthink and you're just getting in your own way when you should just be... doing."

“Did the sun come out or did you just smile at me?”

Cassie sighed impatiently as she waited at her work. She had been just finished one of her shifts, having agreed to treat Ahri. Seated so haphazardly at one of the empty tables, Cassie wasn't sure she could wait. But for now, she was graced with some patience.

Bored past her limits, Cassie had brought out her phone, allowing it to grasp her attention. As she found herself alone and to the humor of another fanfiction, she had barely heard Ahri approach her, grinning at the device. And when she did, the smile stayed just long enough till the end of their greeting.

"Very funny." She scoffs with a new scowl, and pointing at the demigoddess, she wiggled her pointer finger. "You better hurry up and sit down because I speak just enough words to make you forget it all."
