(My) Monster High Reboot Ideas Part 2
To be clear, I’m basing my version of Frankie’s family off of the book: med student dropout is obsessed with making life from death, immediately abandons his creation (an eloquently spoken, relatively handsome but strange looking man). In this version, Frankie’s dad took the name Adam Stein, and married a vampire (not fond of the “bride literally created to belong to this one dude” thing btw). They elected to make Frankie because they could not reproduce naturally. Why did they name her Frankie Stein? Well…
In the normie community, lots of monster horror media exists. This includes “I vant to suck your blood” Dracula jokes, whitewashed mummy fantasy, and the same misconceptions about classic monsters that exist today (e.g., people thinking that Fankie’s dad’s name is ‘Frankenstein’ for some reason, thinking Henry Jekyll was young and not old or that Victor Frankestein was old and not young, etc.). When Frankie’s parents named her, they thought they were being clever and funny.
Cleopatra is actually a Greek name adopted by the Egyptians, so Cleo was probably born during a time when Egypt and Greece had strong relations. This ties back to my previous idea of her and Deuce having known each other even way back then.
Mr. Where is Invisi Billy’s dad. On that note, ‘Invisi Billy’ is a nickname. His legal name is just Billy.
Therianthropes (werewolves, werecats) can be born or made. Being made into one is seen by the community as a gift, and converts are relatively rare. Unfortunately, there is such a thing as being turned without consent; this is usually traumatic, and the victim may lash out in a terrified, confused panic. This usually fuels the “out of control, feral shapeshifter” stereotype.
Neighthan Rot is gay, as the writers had originally intended.
When the hybrid monster kids show up, its acknowledged that mixed kids aren’t exactly rare- Jackson and Holt are right there trying to help them adjust, and a subplot is Deuce becoming comfortable enough with his background to be open about it. Lagoona is mixed by sea monster standards, because one of her parents was a nymph. A major theme is how communities begin to integrate and blend sometimes, and that’s okay.
Instead of Manny being rewarded for his bullying behavior by getting a girlfriend out of it, he has an actual character ark. To summarize this character ark: oh no, I’m a bad person and 98% of this school hates me even Heath is mad at me now. How to not be a jerk??? He’s a mess and his version of trying to make nice with Jackson and Holt was giving them cookies. He still gets with Iris because their “childhood friends to high school sweethearts” thing had so much potential, but only after he starts actively trying to improve.
Abbey wants to be a diplomat between her people and the outside world. Sending her to a monster school with all sorts of types of monsters is her peoples’ way of supporting and preparing her for her future career.
