My learning objectives and the exciting week to come
Before starting my internship, I set up a few personal objectives to help me guide my way during these weeks with Girls’ Globe: • Develop my communication skills • Develop my writing skills • Gain a deeper understanding of MNCH (maternal, newborn, child health) • Gain a deeper understanding of breastfeeding
Even though it’s only been two weeks since I started the internship, I feel like what I’ve done so far is, more or less, in line with my learning objectives. I’ve written a blog post on the importance of data on maternal health, and for that I had to spend quite some time digging in to the latest research. The post will be up on GG in a couple of days, I’ll let you know.
One of my main tasks during my internship period is to source for upcoming events (both national and international) where Girls’ Globe’s attendance would be valuable, and recruit new partner organizations and bloggers to the GG team. I really appreciate these task, as I know that they will contribute a lot to my intercultural communication skills.
I’ve also spent time looking into my organization’s archives, to get a better picture of how they work, what they’ve done and with whom they cooperate, and at the moment I’m planning a podcast episode related to breastfeeding, taking in experts in the field to help me bust some myths.
I will get back to my objectives and reflect a bit more on them as a few more weeks have passed.
Over to what is to come! Next week, Girls’ Globe will attend the Human Right’s days (MR-dagarna) here in Malmö – the Nordic countries’ largest conference on human rights.
(Reemaben Nanavatya from SEWA is one of the speakers at MR-dagarna. Here at TEDxGatewayNorway – Interplay of Women, Work and Peace)
MR-dagarna was established in 2000 and it brings together politicians, scientists, authorities, non-profit organizations and so on, with the purpose to increase awareness of human rights, and lift them higher up on the political agenda. This year’s theme focuses on the global refugee situation:
“We all share the same human rights but what are these rights and what do they entail? In what way does this affect you in everyday life? How do you gain knowledge about your rights? Today, the state’s obligation to uphold human right is often lacking and civil society and activists have to assume responsibility. How does this affect people’s opportunity to obtain their rights and what happens to the accountability? During a time when so many are seeking refuge, the right to asylum risks being threatened. How can it be protected?”
Girls’ Globe has received press passes for the event, and I’m so happy that I get to be part of it, and I look forward to share the experience with you.
