It's interesting to see how Mrs. Peel's costumes changed between her first season on The Avengers (the last season for the show in black and white) versus her second season (the show's first season in color). The first season had more high-contrast patterns and details, while the second season relied more on clean lines and solid blocks of color.

This striking coat and dress combination is a good example. The coat features a bold black-on-white cross-shaped pattern, while the dress underneath is the reverse. The contrast is also echoed in the beret with its dark ring like a target (particularly amusing since it's used in a shooting scene), the two-tone gloves, and the black shoes with white straps.
