Monster Boy Challenge Day 13: Of Asian Myth

In South-east Asia, two of the most beloved mythological characters are the benevolent half-human, half-bird creatures known as the Kinnara and Kinnari, which are believed to come from the Himalayas and often watch over the well-being of humans in times of trouble or danger.

Monster Boy Challenge Day 15: Werewolf

It’s almost been a year since I’ve worked on the Monster Boy Challenge. And I missed it. So there!

I’ve never really liked werewolves that are just... big wolves. I want there to be something that’s clearly not natural. And I like them to be as dangerous as possible!

Monster Boy Challenge Day 14: Genderflipped Fem Monster

The Muses in Greek mythology which the Romans adopted are the goddesses of the inspiration of literature, science, and the arts.

These are not exactly monsters, but I like the idea of male muses. So these are Thalia, the muse of comedy, Erato, the muse of lyric poetry, and Urania, the muse of astronomy.

Monster Boy Challenge Day 10: Of African Myth

The Aigamuchab were large man-eating and mostly human looking creatures with eyes either on the soles, in-step or on the back of the heels of their feet. These powerful monsters lived in the dunes of the desert and could easily rip apart and devour any human prey they captured with their huge, long and sharp pointy teeth.An encounter with this creepy desert beast is not something to wish on anyone, but an attack and capture could be avoided if the prey could outrun this deadly but disadvantaged monster.

It’s clear that I find long and bony very scary because that’s automatically how I draw things when I want to make something creepy.

It’s been ages since I’ve done a monster boy challenge! I want to get to these more regularly from now on!

Monster Boy Challenge Day 9: Object-Headed I tried very hard to find an original monster/god/demon with an object as a head, but I couldn’t find any. Maybe they don’t exist? This was interesting to draw X3 But I guess that’s what it’s a challenge for :P

Monster Boy Challenge Day 8: Myth of Your Heritage I’m from the Netherlands, and there aren’t many Dutch myths (especially not when it comes to monsters). But there’s one myth that I love especially, and that’s the one of the Bokkenrijders (Buckriders).

According to popular belief, the Buckriders were ghosts or "devils", who rode through the sky on the back of flying goats provided to them by Satan. During the 18th century, groups of thieves and other criminals co-opted the belief to frighten the inhabitants of Southern Limburg (a province in the southern part of the Netherlands). Using the name "Bokkenrijders", these criminal bands launched raids across a region that includes Southern Limburg, and parts of Germany and Belgium (parts of which were a part of the Netherlands at the time). Commonly, the "Bokkenrijders" raided peaceful communities and farms. 

It’s not exactly a monster boy, but it comes very close.
