I was sitting in the office and one of the colleagues went back to Chik Fil A because they left out an order of french fries. When he came back, the conversation went as follows:
J: So they just gave you that order of french fries when you asked? Without asking for a receipt or anything?
T: Yeah, why wouldn't they?
J: You're white. That's why you have it easy. If a Black guy had gone to ask for that without his receipt, he probably wouldn't get it.
ME: If a Muslim went, he'd get shot in the head.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to look at me.
ME: What? Don't you guys watch the news? Don't you know about the UNC shooting?
J: Damn, that was dark Sana.
ME: Well, we live in a dark world. That's just the reality of things.
I think I'm becoming cynical.
