Curious about YOUR thoughts about Maroon. You don't have to answer the part about what kind of fan you are. I think I can guess. ;)

LOL such a casual fan

My thoughts on Maroon make me a little murderboard-y because holy shit do I have a lot of them. But the reason I made that post is that from what I've seen, die hard swifties love Maroon and more casual fans don't quite get it/care. In my mind now it's something of a litmus test.

In my opinion Maroon is brilliant. I had suspected before it came out that this was the song that was going to be based on Red (color theory, duh), that came about from her doing the re-recording, and was convinced within about ten seconds of pressing play on it.

Having experienced the Red album the way I did (me and Taylor are the same age and I was going through such a period change, graduating university/my parents divorcing/coming to terms that me and the first boy I'd truly loved weren't meant to be and ending things), it holds a really special place in my heart, and that time still feels incredibly formative to me. Therefore when I heard Maroon it felt so fitting, because those feelings which were once so vibrant have now faded and darkened with time. I feel it really viscerally.

There are so many specifics I could go into about why it is about her relationship with JG and how it proves other theories I have about that but I won't go too much into them, all I'll say overall is this:

One of my favorite things about this song is how perfectly it fits on an album with Would've Could've Should've (about her relationship with JM), in a way that Dear John and All Too Well never could have been on an album together. Those songs, written in the immediate aftermath of those relationships feel so incredibly differently stylistically and emotionally. As a listener, it always felt as though JM just should have left her alone whereas JG should have done better.

What I like about Maroon and Would've Could've Should've is that they both really feel like a 30-something woman looking back on these two relationships and realizing that they were more similar than she would have thought at the time, that they were with two men who should have stayed away, should have done better, and that somehow she is still paying for their decision not to.

Maroon made me so incredibly proud of her for finally untangling herself from the nuance of it, in the way that only hindsight allows us to, and I'm really grateful she shared it with us.

I recently finished reading Murder Board by @brianchristophershea and it definitely made me ready to watch one again. This procedural crime novel was fantastic and reminded me of why I love this genre so much. If you’re a fan of James Patterson and Michael Connelly, you will love this one! . If you have a law enforcement officer in your life (spouse, sibling, friend, etc.) and you’d like to learn more about what they go through mentally and emotionally on the job, I’d recommend reading Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement by Kevin M. Gilmartin.
