Controversy Surrounds BJP Veterans' Invitation to Ram Temple Inauguration
In a surprising turn of events, BJP veterans Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi have been extended invitations to the grand inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya scheduled for January 22, as announced by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today. This development follows recent statements from the Ram temple trust, indicating that both leaders were initially discouraged from attending due to concerns about their age and the harsh weather conditions.
Advani, aged 96, and Joshi, aged 89, played crucial roles in leading the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, with Advani notably spearheading the controversial 'rath yatra' in 1990. The conflicting reports about their participation have sparked a significant row, with accusations of sidelining and disrespect toward these veteran leaders by the BJP leadership.
Alok Kumar, the international working president of the VHP, revealed that discussions with Advani and Joshi focused on the Ram temple movement, and both leaders expressed their intent to attend the event. This comes in contrast to the earlier statement from Ram temple trust secretary Champat Rai, stating that the veterans were asked to stay away due to their age, a decision accepted by both leaders.
As the controversy unfolds, preparations for the grand ceremony are reportedly in full swing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend, along with other political and religious figures, including former Prime Minister Deve Gowda. The guest list encompasses Shankaracharyas, saints, and leaders of major temples, adding further anticipation and complexity to this historic inauguration. Stay tuned for updates on this evolving narrative.
