NEVER OVERUSE A TENS UNIT!!!
From personal experience it is the most painful thing you can do if you have a muscular problem. For a while I’ve been suffering from cervical muscle strain and torticollis, and was recently given a TENS unit from physical therapy. My mother and I both asked if it could be overused or if there’s a limit to how long or how much it can be used. They said no so I didn’t think anything would happen if I used it for an extended period of time. I thought I finally had what I needed to make a full recovery, but it wasn’t all it was cracked out to be.
The night I came back from physical therapy with my TENS unit, I used it four times in 30 minute increments before going to bed. In lazy man’s terms, I overused it.
I’m an idiot and didn’t read the warning label and had to go to the ER because the pain was so excruciating. See, I overworked the muscles in my neck and shoulders using the TENS unit because I had it on the wrong setting and used it for too long that when I laid down to sleep, my muscles were sore as fuck. They wouldn’t relax and the spasms were so violent I started having trouble breathing. This combined with my severe anxiety and and history of panic attacks was the worst thing that could’ve happened to me.
So for anyone who has any kind of muscular problem and needs a TENS unit for it, DO NOT OVERUSE IT, ALWAYS CHECK THE SETTING, and READ THE WARNINGS. I literally thought I was going to die and it was the scariest thing I’ve ever gone through.
Feel free to share this post to help anyone else who might be going through this.
