I have Windows 8, and while it’s not as user friendly as 7, it’s not so bad once you get used to it. I think you can revert 8 back to 7 display somehow.
Ugh, so it's worse than 7? D: What is with Windows and every other operating system release being totally shitty? I use Vista on my work laptop and it's hopeless. I will miss Windows 7 :/

Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that D: One of those days where everything refuses to cooperate! I really hope you can get it fixed without any loss of data!
I'm 90% sure that data loss is inevitable at this point, from what I've seen looking up this error online. I will just be happy if we can get it operational again for cheap so at least my dad can use it or something. I think re-installing Windows will give it a new lease of life... it's just a matter of getting it done now it's off warranty... sigh
And as for the data, I just hope the 2nd external drive I have doesn't fail until I can triple/quadruple (good grief) backup my stuff. Even better if we somehow manage to get the first one back online long enough for me to recover whatever was on there. Ugh.
But like, even looking up a new laptop is stressful because I feel sure that no matter how much I research, I will end up with a shitty laptop anyway.
