usually, belle wouldn’t comment to people anything negative about their significant others. they knew that it would be rude. after all, nothing positive would ever come out of pointing out flaws to someone about the person they were dating. but the little devil was caught starring at the giggling boy with flower doodles on his arms -- and once the guy leaves, they feel like they have to open their mouth to the boyfriend. “um... i’m... i’m sorry for staring at you two. he just, um... scares me, i guess.”

HONORARY  DEAD  GIRL  .    betelgeuse  ,  her  best  friend  ,  once  called  her  that  the  first  week  they  met  . it’s  a  very  fitting  title  given  the  amount  of  time  she  spends  in  the  netherworld  .   (  usually  ,  she’s  only  there  with  betelgeuse  at  her  side  ,  but  she’s  found  that  he  likes  gifts  made  in  hell’s  mall  more  than  gifts  made  by  underpaid  chinese  children  .  )   she's  friendly  to  the  dead  ,  she  knows  an  awful  lot  of  them  .   not  this  one  ,  though  .  but  she  still  bounces  on  her  toes  ,  trying  to  reach  the  slime  ball  on  the  top  shelf  .   ‘  excuse  me  ,  miss  !  can  you  help  me  ,  please  ?  i’m  trying  to  get  a  gift  for  my  friend  !  ’

“if you ask me i think you’re PLENTY hot, michael.” sly smirk work on her face as she leans her forehead against his. “i thought you knew that. or was that just your way of making me say it out loud? you do know that you could have just asked if that's the case, m.”

belly giggles softly. okay, maybe they were being mean. but it was funny, and they were just a harmless kid -- er, harmless little devil. so, they had this guy close his eyes, and they look around to make sure no one else is around. once they are safe, they chime a sweet: “okay, open them!”

and the second that he does, they flash into their true form: “rawr!”

then out, back into a normal happy kid. and they pretend that they have no idea what just happened. even pretending not to notice that he was scared. “so! i couldn’t find what i was looking for, but the point was gonna be that my family is jewish, actually. so, um, we won’t be convert...” they let their words trail off and desperately try to keep a grin from crossing their face as they ask: “is something wrong?”

sometimes belle forgets that not everyone lives with the same knowledge that they do. so, their face twists as they look up at him, forgetting that not everyone knew about the reality of heaven and hell for just a split second -- forgetting that not everyone knew the closest thing to ghosts was the way that evil people didn’t get heaven nor hell. but those people just stopped existing. (at least, that was what all devils and angels thought.)

before they open their mouth, though, they realize what they are about to say and catch themself. instead, they try something else: “...i didn’t know you believe in ghosts.”
