pair of zan (hairpins) with filigree gilt heads, formed from sheet silver. one shows a roaring lion on a foliage background, bordered by floral half-medallions; the other, a bird on a cross-ground bordered by three-part floral motifs. the cross-ground shows particular influence of sasanian persian metalwork. tang dynasty, 618-907.
