I’ve always been equipmentally challenged. For example, right now all I own musically is a broke-ass acoustic guitar.

I was fortunate enough to interview David Harrington (Kronos Quartet) for an article and was invited to meet him after the Kronos Quartet concert at the Mondavi in 2010. It was such a BEAUTIFUL show. I got extremely nervous and froze up when I got backstage and saw him standing there in front of me. I was pretty upset with myself for not being able to say how much his music inspires me. So right after I got through the door of my apartment, I ran to my room to write him an email. I received this response the following morning. He is truly an inspiring and introspective person that I look up to. Anyone who is following a dream--whether it be art, music, theatre, or anything for the matter, really--these words will mean so much.
Dear Uyen,
What a beautiful letter to wake up to this morning! Thank you.
I have so much trouble finding the words I really want to say in each situation. Describing music is as [im]possible as describing the color of water. My feeling is that we musicians hope to create memorable experiences that people can draw from---like from a well--when needed. The way it seems to work for me is that little moments-- a certain chord, a rhythm, a tone color--little beads of music lodge in my life and become essential. I search for these every day, for myself and to be able to share with others. There is so much to learn... The world is amazing. It's store of wonders is beyond calculation. The wealth of happiness, tragedy, inspiration, horror and so many other things is limitless.
I want to celebrate, through music, the world as we can know it.
All warm wishes to you,
David
Ah Chemlab. I don't have time right now. But don't think I won't be writing a thing or two about this band. But yeah, I dig this.
