So last night was the parent preview of our musical, Beauty and the Beast. There are certain scenes that we’ve never run all the way through. We’ve never had a full dress rehearsal with proper costumes and such.
So we got through it all without a hitch, for the most part. The Beast forgot the mirror when Belle wanted to see her father so there’s that, but it wasn’t a problem to pretend.
Then we get to the scene where the Beast transforms into the prince. On opening night there’ll be smoke while he changes, but we had no smoke last night.
So after a few awkward seconds,!the Beast starts stripping on stage. He has jeans and a T-shirt under his furry costume, but it’s still extremely funny to watch him peel it off.
Backstage is full of laughter, you can probably hear us in the audience, who is also laughing.
He gets to his regular clothes and everyone starts yelling at him “your shirt!”
Now I thought they meant for him to put his costume shirt back on over his T-shirt. Nope.
They all wanted him to take his T-shirt off.
He came backstage after the scene with his girlfriend, the actress for Belle, laughing and somewhat red faced.
The actor for Lumiere walks up to him and tells him that he should have taken his shirt off.
He’s definitely red now and shakes his head “no!”
His girlfriend laughs and tells him he should have.
Nothing will ever be as entertaining as that was. It’s almost a shame we’ll have a smoke machine on opening night.
