Finally creating a little lore explainer for me and @lpsgirl109 story TN!E. Before we begin, here's a few notes:
This story's been adapted from a years old roleplay we did together. A lot of the lore has been updated and altered. The world this is set in is one populated by both anthropomorphized animals and regular ones, but no humans. Despite being separate from our own, it takes place during an era roughly equivalent to our world's 1980s. At time of story, a massive war has recently concluded, leaving a shadow cast upon the land and many searching for answers. The following is a summary of the first arc as well as some of the world's cosmology.
Four runaways with various troubled pasts join together in a makeshift family, housing themselves in a rickety structure in the forests outside the town of Gavel. The runaways, in age order are Occo, a cheetah who ran away from her small religious community after a mysterious preacher came to town, Berry, an orphaned gray wolf separated from her family by a cataclysmic avalanche, Alan, an axolotl born to a wealthy family, who ran from his homicidal stepmother, and Muzzy, a very young golden retriever given to Occo in her travels in hopes she could bring him to brighter circumstances.
Muzzy, Alan, and Occo begin to develop supernatural abilities, feeding into Berry’s pre existing worries about social isolation. She is contacted by a mysterious ghost, a pharaoh hound named Tornado with weather abilities. He turns her against the others and unlocks her elemental power of ice, trying to have her aid in a ritual— the nature of which he is uncertain, feeling it like a dreamlike call— but after accidentally killing Alan, she rejoins her friends to neutralize Tornado, forcing him to atone. Alan finds himself in the halls of the past elementals, and is told by the first mind elemental, Pandora, of the true nature of their abilities. Alan and Muzzy are the body and mind, and Occo and Berry are fire and ice. Tornado is something else entirely, something Pandora is cagey about. Alan grows suspicious and steals a device, a hypercube shaped jar, to escape back to the world of the living.
Tornado and Melody (a later addition to the cast, a mafia princess red deer running away from her violent family) are pawns to the two ruling divine entities of their world, the Lion and the Lamb respectively, the lord of the skies and queen of the shadows. They serve as tethers in a complex transubstantiation ritual of marking, death, and resurrection, to return the two to Their full corporeal forms after being sealed away by the first elementals, Their children.
