Summary: Shownu can’t help but notice the shy girl in his college lectures and sees her at a party with another guy, and he comes in to the rescue.
a/n: a shownu fluff because it’s shownu.... and he makes me feel soft
Hyunwoo was completely infatuated with you. The way your oversized jumpers hung loosely over your frame and the way your hand flowed with the pens as you silently took notes.
He’d only ever seen you during lectures or sitting quietly in the café on campus but never at social gatherings or parties where he spent most of his time. Despite what was expected of him, he noticed you everywhere and it almost became a routine of his to make sure he’d at least see you once a day. It seemed like he cared a lot more than he usually admits.
Dragging himself to the lecture, Hyunwoo was only motivated with the possibility of seeing you even if it was just the back of your head. His snapback hung low on his forehead in attempts of covering the dark circles that surrounded his brown eyes.
The lecture hall was still quite empty when he’d arrived which made it easy to spot you in your usual seat in the middle. He always made sure to sit a few rows behind you but not too far behind to the point where he couldn’t see you at all.
A can of Redbull was placed carefully on the table with your notebook close beside it as it was already opened to the notes that you’d written from the last lecture. It was your usual setup and Hyunwoo quickly noticed that you had a slightly troubled posture, as you flipped over the couple few pages left in your notebook. It seemed like you were running out of paper to write on, and he chuckled softly, he didn’t quite understand how that would make you worry but still admired it as another unique aspect of your personality.
The lecture started soon after but Hyunwoo paid no attention to it, copying notes off the person sitting next to him when needed but mostly paid his attention to the back of your head.
Throughout the lecture, Hyunwoo watched you sip silently from your can of Redbull, write notes quickly whenever the professor mentioned something that didn’t seem important to him but the opposite to you and how you shift in your seat. It made him intrigued for a reason not even he could explain.
For everyone else in the hall, the lecture seemed to drag on and on, but for Hyunwoo, it went by way too quickly and before he knew it… he was watching you leave once again.
“Come on Y/N! It’ll be fun.” Your roommate exclaimed, desperately shoving the text for a party into your face.
“It’s not really my thing.” You muttered, throwing your bag onto your bed before walking towards your table and grabbing your bottle of water.
“I heard Hyunwoo might be there.” She wiggled her eyebrows.
“So what? I don’t have anything to wear anyways.” You huffed, your attempts at getting her to leave you alone and covering the rosy blush that appeared on your cheeks failing miserably.
“You can borrow my clothes! I’ve seen the way he looks at you, Y/N, trust me. This is your chance. You’re going and that’s final.” She grinned cheekily, pumping her fists into the air.
You let out a groan of defeat, knowing that she wouldn’t leave you alone until you agreed but also because you thought that maybe Hyunwoo would actually approach you.
Maybe.
She let out a squeal before running over to her dresser, already taking out pieces of clothing for you to wear.
The party was loud and you couldn’t help but feel completely out of place. You knew basically nobody and your roommate had ditched you after finding out her parents suddenly texted her to meet up for dinner.
The short, maroon dress rode its way up your thighs despite your attempts to pull it down whenever you had the chance. The whole house smelt of cigarettes and alcohol and it made you wonder how everyone wasn’t aware of it.
You slowly walked towards the drinks, hoping to find some water or a fizzy drink, but instead finding vodka and beer. Carefully avoiding the drunken human beings, you walked into the front room, taking place against a wall until you deemed it acceptable to leave.
Your phone was the only thing that was occupying your hands and you silently prayed that nobody would try and talk to you. But it seemed like your prayers weren’t heard.
“Hey, what’s a pretty babe like you standing here all by yourself?” a voice said disturbing you from your gaze on your phone.
Your eyes met a familiar face, and you silently questioned at how Jooheon probably couldn’t recognize you even though he attended most of the classes you were attending too. Tonight, his eyes were bloodshot and you could almost taste the alcohol that was radiating off his breath.
“Waiting for my boyfriend.” You lied, struggling to think of anything else to make him go away. But instead he came closer to you making you lean further into the wall, hoping the wall would just swallow you whole instead.
It was no secret you were uncomfortable, anybody around you would’ve been able to tell but everyone was drunk and too absorbed in their own world to care.
“C’mon baby, I hate it when people lie to me.” He murmured, tilting his head to the side as the stench of alcohol made your face scrunch up.
Absentmindedly, you pulled your dress down. It was a pathetic attempt to even try covering yourself as it only drew his attention to your exposed skin. Your whole body tensed as his hands made its way to your thighs.
“I’m not lying.” You whimpered, your attempts at pushing him off you being completely useless.
His palms were sweaty against your skin, sticking to your smooth skin as he rubbed his hands up and down. But before he could say anything, he was pulled off of you.
“What do you think you’re doing to my girlfriend?” A voice growled making your head snap around to the boy you had been hoping to see all night.
“I didn’t know she had a boyfriend.” Jooheon defended himself making Hyunwoo roll his eyes before his hand grasped the collar of Jooheon’s shirt.
You gasped, eyes meeting a few bystanders that were watching the scene as if it came out from a movie.
“Bullshit. Now get lost.” Hyunwoo snarled making him scatter away.
Hyunwoo quickly turned his attention back to you, a concerned look replacing the tough look from before. “You okay?”
You simply nodded, the words being stuck in your throat as you tried to recover. Hyunwoo was quickly by your side, his hand encasing yours as he pulled you away from the party.
The cold air shot through you as you made it to the front garden that was mostly empty. The music that once pounded through your head was now less intense and gave you room to breathe.
“Uh, thank you.” You murmured, finally being able to get the words out. Hyunwoo’s head snapped up, his brown eyes immediately meeting yours.
“I-it was nothing.” Hyunwoo stammered, looking speechless but still managing to make your heart race.
“No seriously, I don’t know what I would’ve done if he went further.” You said, a shiver running down your spine from the thought and also from the cold night breeze.
“Oh, you’re cold.” He stated, taking his jacket off and wrapping it around you before you could even get the chance to get a word out. You smiled sheepishly at him as a thank you which he returned gracefully.
“Wanna go for a walk?”
It was about ten minutes before either of you said anything, instead walking in a comfortable silence.
“I didn’t know you were into parties.” Hyunwoo said, breaking the silence.
“I’m not. Just forced to be here because of my roommate.” You sighed, wishing you stayed home instead of listening to your roommate.
“Oh, she’s at the party?” Hyunwoo asked as you looked at him for the first time for the entire walk.
His hair was scruffy and was void of the beanie or snapback he usually wore around campus. He wore an old tee that was once framed by the jacket that now hung loosely around your shoulders. His legs were adorned by black jeans that tightly hugged his legs and you couldn’t help but admire him for a moment.
“Uh, not really. Her parents decided to show up but she still made me go in her place.” You sighed, rolling your eyes when you could’ve just lied to her and gone somewhere else.
“So, she convinces you to go to a party, but couldn’t even go with you.” Hyunwoo stated although it came out as more of a question making you giggle.
“Yeah, she even made me wear her dress.” You smiled, looking down at the dress that was mostly covered by Hyunwoo’s jacket.
Hyunwoo glanced over at you, smiling slightly as you hugged the jacket tightly around your frame. “So this is what you hide with all those big jumpers.”
You couldn’t help but laugh which made Hyunwoo smile, to him your laugh was contagious. He can’t get enough of it.
“Don’t mock my fashion sense. I enjoy being comfortable all the time.” You stated firmly, before pouting a little at him.
“Do you steal them from your boyfriend or something because you seem to have a never-ending supply,” Hyunwoo chuckled, but secretly trying to cover up the sadness he feels. He’d always thought a pretty face like you having someone, but hearing you say it earlier only confirmed it.
“Boyfriend?” You raised an eyebrow at him, shuffling your feet slightly as you continued to walk beside the tall boy.
“I thought -,” he started but cut himself off. “Why’d you say you were waiting for your boyfriend?”
You laughed at him only making Hyunwoo even more confused.
“If I was waiting for my boyfriend then how come you swooped in claiming I was your girlfriend? Surely it’s obvious that I am single.”
Hyunwoo stopped on the sidewalk making you stop too, turning slightly so you could face him. You watched as the gears in his head turned vigorously, before he turned to look at you with a smile on his face.
“So, you’re single?” Hyunwoo smirked, a sudden boost of confidence surging through him.
You groaned out loud, rolling your eyes with a smile – making Hyunwoo’s smirk turn into a grin.
“I mean, can you stop saying that out loud?” You fidgeted with your hands, “And it’s not like I haven’t noticed you burning a hole through my head with that stare of yours.”
Hyunwoo instantly met your eyes, his grin now replaced with a shy smile.
“And?” Hyunwoo smiled, his eyes shy which only made your heart flutter at how fast everything was going.
“I mean, it’s not like I don’t stare at you too.” You murmured, your eyes slightly wavering at how intense he was looking at you right now. “Like, maybe, I won’t mind if you wanna look at me more often from now on.”
Your heart was practically hammering out of your chest whilst butterflies swarmed your stomach.
“So, if I kissed you right now, you won’t mind?” Hyunwoo grinned, his body rocking back and forth with his hands in his pockets.
You couldn’t even form a coherent sentence anymore, so you shook your head, a smile pushing its way onto your lips. Before you could even think, Hyunwoo’s warm hands had cupped your face as his lips pressed against yours softly.
Instantly, you melted into him and your hands found their way to the width of his back and his lips molded gently against yours. The butterflies that swarmed your stomach felt like they were on fire and you felt like you were going to pass out.
It was a few moments until you both pulled away, panting for air but craving each other once again. Hyunwoo’s eyes burned into yours, his pupils blown out and his lips puffy. He let out a shaky breath before grinning, his eyes mocking his smile too.
“Does this mean I can take you out on a date?” Hyunwoo asked, making you giggle and shake your head lightly.
“You can do whatever you want, and I’d be happy to do it together.” You smiled, before nuzzling your forehead onto his warm chest as you felt his lips press on the top of your head.
Maybe coming to the party wasn’t a bad idea after all.
