Found this cute little spotted cucumber beetle.
Beetle update
The new colonies have been doing decently over this past week or so. Defying my expectations for sure.
“Houdini” is going strong still, there’s a bunch of pupa now, the larva are still growing, etc. Nothing but good stuff. Their official count right now is 100-110. Sometimes little fellas get past me.
“Monty Python” Is also going really well! Their numbers are around 55 now. They were down to only 3 adults, so I added 2 more from my own colony to help them out a little bit. I’ve already got someone in mind for them but I keep forgetting to frickin message them
“Gilliam” is still under quarantine but they look pretty good. I saw a single mite one of my last checks, but right now they look good. Activity is up, they’re eating, poopin, molting, etc. There’s a new pupa in there that I’m pretty sure is Larder, but I’m not gonna bother him until he turns into a beetle. However many beetles I end up removing will be replaced by beetles in my personal colony.
“Burtons Beetles” unfortunately succumbed to mites on March 28th.
“Cowboy” is also doing great. They’re eating, growing, and poopin, so they’re happy little meat children. They also have larder in their numbers, so I’ll remove them once they’re adults. Lost numbers will be made up by personal beetles!
“The Lardy boys” are the ones I’m the most excited about. There are larva in there now! They’re so tiny despite larder beetles being huge. I don’t know how many exactly, but I’m going to count them in a while. I tried larders once before, but that didn’t work out. I think I had all of one sex so they weren’t breeding. But heyo! Struck gold this time. I don’t know If I’ll sell them or keep them, but I’ll keep you all updates.
I also have a seperate booster colony that will undergo a 3 week quarantine and then be added to one of the existing colonies. I don’t know if they’re going to live or not, their activity has me worried, but We’ll have to see.
Cute little friend who was enjoying the passionflowers just like me.
I don’t know what this fancy beetle is but I love it. It was a speedy little thing.
