Rumi-Rachel’s situation is such a unique one since, despite being from the generation of the protagonists’ parents (she is 37, like Yukiko, Kogorou and Eri), her love interest – who shockingly wasn’t her childhood friend nor her cousin (as far as we know at the time of writing) – died a long time ago.

WHICH MEANS that, yes, she is out for revenge and deadly, she will use her coworker as decoy to lure out snipers targeting her, she will taunt a killer about stabbing the little girl he is holding hostage right now in front of the kid’s friends, yes, sure, but more importantly, she is HOT and SINGLE.

Absolutely no issue with any of these points, but when I think about her shipping options with characters who aren’t paired off at the moment (and they’re scarce), I have fun.

Hyoue Kuroda: Fucked up eyes, RUM contenders, scars all over their bodies, collateral damages in The Events From Seventeen Years Ago – and the only(?) ones who survived them, although their lives were significantly altered in very different ways. Kuroda feels her hostility toward him and has an idea of the reasons behind it (that she sees him as responsible for failing to prevent Kohji and Amanda’s deaths) but he is also… surprisingly understanding and lenient toward her? You would think that someone originally from the NPA (who miiight even have been leading the “Zero” section a few years prior) and currently the superintendent of the Tokyo MPD would be slightly bothered by a foreigner hunting on his territory, and yet! He knows where her heart (and knife) is. It has a bit of the AkAm vibe (grudges and misunderstanding and withholding information to your own allies – Furuya didn’t know who she was!), with a slightly older generation.

Hidemi Hondou(/Rena/Kir): If I had a nickel every time an American with Japanese ancestry who had already lost her mother witnessed the death of her own father through a gunshot, I would have two nickels thanks to them. I think they would get along? They both chose to follow their father’s footsteps. They have the same sharpness, while knowing how to play weaker to reach their goals.

Shuuichi Akai: He snipes better, but she would beat him in a fight (GA pointed out that Makoto is probably the only one to surpass her); and she would fit right in with the idea that the men in the Sera-Akai family tend to have very, uh, very assertive partners. They both lost their Romantic Interest and a parent(al figure) to the BO. There is an extremely comical triangle of feelings if you throw Ai into the mix – Ai went from scared to unimpressed by him, while liking Rumi (Wakasa-sensei), who has a grudge against her mother (and potentially Shiho herself), while one of Shuuichi’s top priorities is to ensure that Ai remains alive. Rumi herself likes Shuuichi’s vibes, or at least Subaru’s, because he reminds her of Tsutomu, and hey, they could talk about their crush on Shuuichi’s dad together. Also, Shuuichi, I’m love you, but it would do you some good to date a woman who is older than you, for once.

Rei Furuya: Listen, sometimes (often), someone needs to stop him, and she’s proven she can take him out.

Misao Yamamura: HEAR ME OUT. Their seiyuu provided the original voices for Lum and Araru (Urusei Yatsura), and nobody loves a seiyuu joke more than GA. It would probably be based on a misunderstanding at first (Yamamura accidentally helping her, or not having done a thing but appearing at the right time, and then delivering a one-liner that he’s actually repeating from Kogorou-but-it-was-Conan) but it would be SO, so funny. Rumi’s love language seems to be dedicating her life to protecting people she adores; that would mean people unable to say anything mean to Yamamura because of the dark, threatening aura from the woman standing behind him, who then feeds him the Wakasa-sensei-is-so-clumsy-teeheeheehee act, and Yamamura wouldn’t think anything is amiss. I want to hear her “Darling~” at him. I’m sure she would adore his grandmother.
