People Are Flocking To Duck Commander's Dynasty For A Reason
"Duck Dynasty," as you surely know, is an A&E reality show that shows the Robertson clan, the lengthy-bearded proprietors and operators of Duck Commander in West Monroe, La. Duck Commander which makes duck calls by hand. This story is a rags-to-silver spoon one. Phil Robertson, the Capo of his family, began his duck-calling company over 24 years ago. This avid out door kind of guy wasn't happy with the duck calls that were then on the market, so he decided to make his own. He did about $7,000 in sales his first year, but slowly built up his business sales over the next twenty odd years, hiring a lot of relatives along the way. His son, Willie, took over the company and has grown it to a $44 million annual business - one that has made his Robertson family clan mighty wealthy. They were well off before "Duck Dynasty" grew to a hit cable show that gathers record-breaking numbers of viewers. Many news critics have been summizing as to why the show is so popular - and some, such as Rolling Stone, say the show and the characters are nothing but a big scam. As usual, so many in the drive by media are getting it exactly wrong, just to sell more magazines and are basic envy types. It is true that each episode is scripted and staged with fairly quintessential sitcom scenarios. But what is also true is that the Robertson's are totally genuine characters. These are Phil and Kay's 3 bearded sons, who all are employed at Duck Commander, their spouses and children and, of course, Uncle Si, a gray-bearded military veteran who is both funny and vibrant. These people are obdurately religious. This family believes that when you marry, you actually are one flesh. The Robertson's are unsullied and functional, and the show is joyous about these basic values. The love the idea that they are politically incorrect and unapologetic about that, as well.. They go into the forest to shoot, skin and have dinner. That is just the way it is, and more power to them. Unlike most sitcoms on Television these currently, the dad's aren't fools or idiots. They are respected and trusted by their children. And grandpa Phil is trusted by his grandchildren. These characters are all self-deprecating and don't care about being the butt of a joke, or sweat the small stuff. - because it's crystal they are all in on the jesting and having a fun time making the sitcom. In many american homes there is no order because of divorce, but in the case of the Robertson's they are together and driven by their faith. Quite frankly, it is probably having no order in viewers lives that draw them to watch Duck Commander. Believe me nobody understands that better than Phil. He mentions in his autobiography that he was not a good man in his early years, as most of us, so we can relate. But finally at the end of the day as he got older, he found his way to his God. This was what brought him to the person he is today. He became a changed man is living his life according to the Bible, which is our guide to being good humans to one and other. Am I making sense? It is their community that draws in viewers. We like the way they celebrate basic, classical values with humor. One would have to be a cynic to miss the obvious reason so many viewers are watching this values basis show. And most big-city media critics are too misguided and pretentious to understand what "Duck Dynasty" -"Duck Commander" is all for.
