title: that's not my name pairing: jongkey rating: pg-13 description: So Jonghyun's really fucking cute and all, but with his arrogant personality, Kibum just knows he's not his type.
“You’re really fucking stupid, you know that?” Kibum told him harshly, crossing his arms in a defiant manner as he stared at the silver haired boy who was currently returning a cold stare.
“I’m the one whose stupid? You’re the one who dropped the letter into my locker. You’re really smart Kibum, bravo. Why don’t we just all slow clap it out for your dumbass,” Jonghyun mocked him.
“You’re so annoying,” Kibum growled at the male, trying to keep his calm—but it was getting more harder because just looking at this fucker pissed him off. “Are you going to give it to him then?”
“What? Pftt, no. You put it in my locker, so it’s for me.”
“What? No, that letter wasn’t even meant for you Jonghyun. Just give it to him, okay?”
“Nah, I don’t think I will. I mean, who knows when Minho’s coming back.”
“It still wasn’t meant for you, ok? I don’t even know why you assumed that I would give the letter to a jackass like you anyways,” Kibum retorted. “You know I don’t like you.”
“But I like you,” Jonghyun responded easily, waving the letter in front of the boy’s face teasingly. “So you’re not going to get this back. I was going to throw it away, but you’re not like the rest of them.”
“What do you mean by that—as a matter of fact, I don’t even want to know. You just assumed I gave you this because you get a lot of letters in your locker everyday, didn’t you? God, I hate arrogant people like you.”
“And I love the ‘playing-hard-to-get’ people like you,” Jonghyun said as he closed the distance between them. “I love challenges.”
“Look,” Kibum gently pushed him away. “I’m not some sort of toy you can play with, okay? I don’t like guys like you Jonghyun. You know that.”
Jonghyun wore a visible frown on his face as he looked the younger in the eyes.
“And why not? You really didn’t even give me a chance—”
“It’s because I’m not into you like that, ok? The chance wasn’t even meant for you,” Kibum stated. “Listen, I got to go, okay? Bye.” He finished awkwardly as he strutted past the boy in haste.
Kibum really didn’t know what to say. It was just awkward and uncomfortable, and god, he didn’t know if he was being serious or not—but if he was, then maybe, maybe just a tiny bit inside of him melted because he wasn’t going to lie, Jonghyun was very attractive… but he just wasn’t his type.
-----
Kibum came to school with his hands in his pockets, the tiredness visible in his eyes because studying killed him and he had no time to sleep. But it was worth it if he was going to be in the top ten smartest students in class thing-a-ma-jig, and damn it, he was going to get it.
He walked into algebra class with his head high now, his attention focused on their teacher and his hands folded to give off the impression that he was a good student. The bell rung, and coming a second later in the door was none other than Kim Jonghyun. The teacher didn’t mind though, and told him to sit down quickly, and god forbid it lead to Jonghyun sitting right next to him. Fuck.
“So Kibum-ah, did you think about it?”
“Think about what?”
“Going on that date with me--”
“Jonghyun please, you’ve irked my face enough already as it is. Just stop.”
Jonghyun huffed in defeat at the boy’s answer, so he turned face forward to concentrate on their teacher as well. Jonghyun knew Kibum probably wasn’t going to budge for a while now, but he could tell by the way he stared at him—that he at least liked something about him, even if he didn’t know everything.
Speaking of not knowing everything, Kibum had no idea that Jonghyun was intelligent enough to get his name on the board, and he was at the top of their class! No, no—maybe he read it wrong. Kibum’s name was supposed to be up there, (which it was), but it was supposed to be higher than Jonghyun’s at least. He came in second place, and that wasn’t so bad until Jonghyun began teasing him about it.
“You know,” Jonghyun said once their period was done. “I could help you study.”
Even though it sounded like a great idea, Kibum was not stupid. He knew just by the drips of flirtatiousness in his voice that Jonghyun didn’t want to do juststudying.
“No, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure? I could help you—”
“What part of no do you not understand?” Kibum said, studying him as if he was the most stupidest person ever.
“Okay, whatever you say Kibum~” he said, placing both of his arms behind his head as he leaned in his chair as if he were resting. And Kibum hated that class more than anything, because their teacher decided that maybe they should work on a project together. Whoop-dee-fucking-doo.
He loathed at it because this would require him to interact with him, and Jonghyun would have to be in his space and they’d have to do things together and the thought literally had Kibum horrified for the rest of the day.
-----
He misses him a lot, and somehow, somewhere, he finds it in himself that Minho’s coming back to greet him like always with that stupid, goofy smile plastered to his handsome lips and everything will be back to normal. But every passing day, Kibum doubted it more and more because Minho probably would’ve texted him by now or something if he was going to return. Kibum groaned inwardly as he heard the doorbell ring, and Kibum prayed to the heavens that it wasn’t Jonghyun.
“Hi Kibum-ah~!” Jonghyun announced cheerfully.
Fuck.
“Go to the second door on your right,” Kibum said as nodded over on to the staircase behind him. “I’ll be up in a minute.”
“Not even a hello? Rude.”
“Hello Jonghyun. Are you satisfied?” Before he could even answer, he whipped around and went to get all the supplies he thought they would need from the kitchen. As soon as he went back up the stairs, he visibly stood in shock as he saw Jonghyun doing something so simple—yet that simple thing had his cheeks red in a second.
“Keep your jacket on,” he barked at him.
“I’m hot though,” he whined. “Or will it be too much for you to see?”
“Fuck you.”
“Oh eager, aren’t we? If you wanted to skip studying, you could’ve just said so.”
“Oh my god. You know what—can we just focus on the task at hand?”
“Okay princess,” he said, and Kibum swore he had never been so irked in such a long time.
They studied hard and the studying session seemed to drag on for both of them. Kibum read lines from the paper over and over again to himself, but he just couldn’t wrap his head around it. Kibum, reluctantly, asked if Jonghyun understood the complex question being given to him—and of course, it required a little bit of Kibum’s space being infiltrated by the other.
Jonghyun rested his chin on Kibum’s shoulder, nearly wrapping both of his arms around the younger as he spoke into his ear: “Well first, you have to do it like this, understand? Once you solve that, you have to…” and his words no longer registered in Kibum’s ears because the only thing he could register was the fact that Jonghyun had came a little to close to him and he was all but comfortable.
“Oh god, can you not?” Kibum turned his head to the right, and god, he’d never made a more terrible decision in his life because meeting his eyes were big brown puppy ones. Not only that, but they were in kissing distance of one another and fuck, with Jonghyun’s arm keeping him in place, all he could do was stare.
It felt agonizing and brutal, but then he faced forward and tried his best to ignore the lips that were dangerously close to his cheek. Talk about awkward.
“Kibum… were you even listening?”
“Yeah, I heard you.” Kibum lied.
Jonghyun sighed and placed his thumb underneath the boy’s jawline, frowning as he turned him to face him again.
“You know you don’t have to lie, and by the way you were looking away and blushing is a big giveaway that you could barely pay attention to what I was saying you dunce.”
Kibum went to retort against him, but the lips that he was trying to ignore to the best of his ability were now suddenly attached to his lips. His eyes were wide and he was utterly shocked by the whole ordeal, his instincts telling him that he should’ve pushed him away when he had the chance. Strangely enough though, Kibum was responding back by slowly moving his mouth in time with Jonghyun’s. His arms wrapped themselves around the other boy’s neck while he had his hands glued to the boy’s hips.
And somehow... it just felt right.
“Tell me…” Jonghyun said after he pulled back, holding the boy’s face in his hands. “If you don’t want this, then tell me to stop.”
Kibum shook his head and let a small smile crossed his lips. “No, no I think want this… but this doesn’t mean I’m your boyfriend, got that?”
Jonghyun laughed heartily, causing the younger to love the sound of his voice more and more. It felt like Kibum’s heart was beginning to beat, but not for himself—for another person. He wanted to disagree with himself and say that this was just a one time thing, but the way Jonghyun kissed him and held him in his arms—it felt like it wouldn’t be.
“Alright princess, whatever you say. I bet I’ll make you mine by the end of next semester though.”
“How much?” Kibum growled against his lips. “And besides, we wouldn’t be in this position if you hadn’t opened that fucking letter you asshole.”
“I know you love me,” Jonghyun pressed a sweet kiss to his bottom lip. “I still think we’d be together, even without the letter.”
“We’re not together.” Kibum said playfully.
“Oh yeah? I bet $20 that we’ll be together. How much are you betting?”
“Jonghyun-”
“Come on, it’ll be fun! Unless you’re chicken.”
“Fine. I bet $50 that we won’t,” Kibum says haughtily, crossing his arms that day with the mindset that he would win. Little did he know that two weeks from now, he'd be paying the conceited other, they would be holding hands around school; kissing each other against lockers, and calling themselves the title that Kibum told himself he’d never say.
