Day in the Life: Model Mayhem
A day in the life of a publicist is like a snowflake: no two are ever the same. With different projects, clients, and events to manage, the PR life is always changing and never repetitive. Because each day is different, we thought we'd note the things we do on a "typical" day. For the first installment of this "day in the life" series: a model casting at the office in the middle of the day.
10 am: Made a call with a client, updated our social media accounts, and just have one unread email. A productive morning so far.
11 am: Only one more hour until the casting starts. I should probably eat a snack but I'm in the middle of editing this press release...
11:30 am: The doorbell rings. It's an early model. We go to greet her, have her check in, look at her portfolio, and take four photos: front, profile, editorial, commercial. One model down, 33 to go.
12:00 pm: In between writing emails and answering the phone, we check in and photograph a few more models.
1:00 pm: One hour left of the casting. Things have slowed down a bit so I get back to editing that release. At the same time, I take bites of my lunch and start uploading the models' photos onto my computer, but the doorbell interrupts.
1:30 pm: We are juggling four or five models at a time. I think the office dog wants to be a model because he keeps photobombing.
2:00 pm: The casting is over. I just finish importing the rest of the photos and--
2:30 pm: One last model arrives. You can't control everything.
3:00 pm: I go through the photos and narrow down the collection to 1-2 photos of each model. I share them with the rest of the office and we send them to our client for a final opinion.
4:00 pm: The casting is over, the photos are sent, and I can finally focus on the bits and pieces of my assignments that I've completed. Time to make the last hour of the day as productive as the first one!
