Today is my birthday, and it has been one of the best ever! We wandered through a cemetery in the fog, ate dinner at a restaurant that first opened in the 1750s, then spent the night at an 18th-century inn (something that’s been on my bucket list since I was a little kid!) in Mystic, Connecticut. :D For my birthday cake, my fiance made a spiced gingerbread with dried fruit and molasses, based on a recipe that George Washington’s mother purportedly made for Lafayette (I have my doubts, but still); that’s it in the bottom image, with homemade whipped cream, served on a pewter plate from the Saratoga Battlefield National Park and with the reproduction 18th-century cutlery he got me for Christmas. <3

May next year be as wonderfully productive and full of history and new experiences as the last!
