i know it is sad but i cannot stand true sadness so just.....this 100% screams moving to a new city by yourself feels....like clearly this mc is full of melancholy and angst, they had a pretty difficult childhood which i know is a cliche but like... sickly family, there was always someone ill or dying or dead. and this MC moves to a shitty little apartment in a city they’ve never really been to, but they at least have a job offer there and u know what if it’s not the tiny town they grew up in then nobody’s going to be getting all up in their business, saying everything is going to be okay when they’re sure things aren’t okay. and then here they are, ready for the Angst, but the neighbor has a dog and who is heartless enough not to make friends with the dog?? the neighbor is this shrivelled old lady who doesn’t have much to do but go to church, and she drags the MC with her because those piercings clearly say “going to hell,” and the MC Hates it (rightfully so), but one day she actually goes and the lady leaves her alone like “my job here is done” and MC just kind of... latches on to this really unhappy-looking saint in the corner like same. and if they do actually buy a candle and put it in front of the saint, just because they don’t have any already, then that’s their own business.
