When he just became an Ascian his body was still trying to process and reconcile the sudden influx of massive amounts of aether, along with the flood of information brought by memories from ancient times. A human body can hardly handle this all at once so he ended up overloaded.
Ah. Mister Nabriales, my beloved
wait i've never seen nabriales shipped with someone's character before! tell me everything, this is fascinating
Oh man oh mannn!!! There really aren't many Nabriales/OC folks, it's true. Though I can absolutely say others exist, and are my friends, moots and acquaintances!
Everything is A LOT but I'll try and summarise it as best I can!
Firstly, I truly owe it to my best friend, who went "ha what if we rubbed your WoL and Nabriales together", and we've been writing/rping for nearly seven years with Nabriales, Emet-Selch and my WoL (Ira) as a polyship.
The short of it is that as Ancients, he was fascinated by the nature of their existence and eventually fell in love with them as a person. They're bonded in a way that survives the Sundering. They always end up finding each other, in any world, shard or universe because of it.
Post-ShB, the remains of Nabriales' soul were in a single sliver of auracite; Ira essentially pulled him out of and used their aether to stitch his soul back together; like a graft until it was stable enough on its own. They had some HEAVY regrets about what happened with Emet-Selch.
Generally his more playful nature helps unfurl Ira's more surly or withdrawn self; helps them come out of their shell. In the past this has sometimes had the edge of villainy or corruption to it, but post-Endwalker, untethered from Zodiark, it's more like old habits reinforced.
My bff writes Nabriales with some heavy influence from Balthier and Lupin III which gives him a lot of 'bastard with a good heart' charm at times. Also a kind of powerlifter/strongfat body type, and transmasc, because honestly who out here is having a niche blorbo without hitting em with the OC-ification beam a bit, eh?
Honestly I could keep going for hours in a wild TED Talk like manner; having the opportunity to talk even a bit is wild.
