((I was really hoping I’d get this one! Okay, so this is a snippet I wrote awhile back about a trip my character made into Draenor. His name is Nafanicus, and he is a kaldorei druid. My original RP character..like, the very first one I can ever remember RPing. Hope you enjoy! And feel free to send prompts for him too! >.>))
It was a strange thing, the way one's life could change so abruptly.
One moment, he found himself in Darnassus, watching the love of his life again leave him, to pursue some sort of mission her father had given her. To find who she really was. Who was he to fault her? No, he had done the same thing before, had he not?
It was under different circumstances, true, but everyone needed their time for self-discovery. This was hers, it seemed.
Mere minutes after Nafanicus had returned and tucked his son into bed, he found himself returning to the Temple. What he found, however, was not the solace for meditation that he required. He'd heard of the conflicts occurring across the recently re-opened Dark Portal, but harbored no desire to go there himself. He held no curiosities beyond his own world, beyond his son and the care the boy needed. Nothing else mattered to him.
Yet now, through a series of fast-paced, unexpected events, he found himself in the jungles of Gorgrond.
The air here was thick and choking, and his left knee was troubling him in a particularly harsh way. He squinted against the strong rays of sunlight that managed to break their way through the overhanging vegetation, pushed aside another set of thick vines, and was taken aback.
Before him was a scene of absolute beauty, even compared to some of the sights of mainland Azeroth. How the vegetation and plant life could be so lush, so...unkempt and wild was a mystery to him. The valley below his vantage point was absolutely vibrant with life. Thick green grasses mingled with the bright pinks and reds of jungle flowers, even a few orange shades were interspersed. Strong trees with trunks thick as some houses he'd seen shot up from the ground, their tops disappearing above the jungle's vegetation ceiling. It was all so beautiful, for a moment Nafanicus had forgotten his mission.
But even to his still-building sense of the natural flow of nature's magics, he could sense there was something wrong. There were hardly any creatures within the valley. In nearly every other such place of beauty he'd seen, there were plenty of animals that called the place home. But there was an eerie silence that had overtaken the place. It made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end, and he actually let out a low, almost inaudible growl. There were threats here.
Almost as soon as the thought crossed his mind, he heard a whooshing sound to his right. He glanced that way, and was met with a strong strike to the face. Head jerked back and he stumbled, righting himself, before looking to the source. There was...nothing. Just the thick vines that he'd brushed aside before.
Another rush of sound, this time from the left, and he was struck again. Not as violent a blow this time, as he wasn't as taken by surprise, but he still couldn't spot anything! There was something in this jungle that was very keen on him -not- being in it, and he didn't like his chances. In this form, he was weak, barely able to get a good push off his left knee without sharp pain lancing along his entire leg.
He fell to the ground when he heard the noise again, and he looked up to see a rush of vines, practically a pillar, shoot past where his body had just been. In the blink of an eye, the transformation happened. What once was scarred kaldorei flesh became the hulking muscle of a beast. Rich green hair shifted to a dark, almost black shock of fur that ran down the creature's back. Hands and feet shifted to large paws, nails to claws, and where once was crouched a kaldorei had given way to a larger, uninjured, fully capable bear. And he didn't look happy.
Whirling around, he caught sight of the offender and growled again, louder this time and showing teeth. It smelled like plants, almost exactly like the rest of the jungle. But it had eyes, and long claws of green. It stood tall like an elf, but taller and thinner. There wasn't any muscle to it...no, no real flesh to speak of! He hesitated for a half-second, his mind running through what it was registering.
A...plant person? Was this who was responsible for the overgrowth? He'd seen those corrupted by the vegetation in Felwood, seen and even had to put down a comrade or two that couldn't stop the infestation. But they smelled, looked different than these. There had at least been flesh underneath, but this....there was nothing but plant.
He growled again, hunkering down and staring at the creature before him. There was a time when he would have tried to communicate, to talk to the creature, to perhaps reason or figure out why this tree-man had attacked him. But he was not so naive anymore, and had he been, likely he would be dead.
