Interactions that take place deep underwater but not so far (1-??)

(This is a bit of a non-ambitious side work for me, writting a bit more of SOL stuff and common chit-chattery from the clan, there are hints and nods to more serious stuff as well but it all takes a sit back in order to bring into the spotlight how my clan tends to be in more relaxed days lol)

Voices across The Garden (pt.1...?)

A low, melodious humming could be heard from within the clan’s garden, coming from the mouth of the lonely siren, Nairne. The coatl laid on his belly, looking intently towards a mid sized water pond where a variety of fish and sealife had gathered because of his enticing voice, he knew the reason perfectly well and couldn’t help the joyous tingling in his chest; however, his voice remained strictly low in order to not bring forth unwanted company in the form of an unsuspecting clanmate. It would be awkward to explain himself as he rarely ever let a soul hear his true voice.

As his small audience gathered closer to him, his eyes locked to the marginally biggest fish on the right side of his. Instinctually he accommodated his body for a better pounce, taking a tentative step closer, he opened his mouth to launch at his newly acquired snack and…

“Hey!”

Nairne, stopped mere inches to the surface of the pond, mouth agape, body tighly coiled and feathers all rustled up in an instinctual defensive way. He focused his sight to the pond below for a fraction of a second only to see that his “hunt” had banished along with the rest of the fish and critters he had enchanted. He sighed and sat back on his spot, still not deciding to face his interruptor, instead opting to fix his still bristled feathers to the best of his ability.

However the intruding clanmate simply made it’s way towards the coatl and sat nonchalantly at the other’s side.

“You’ve got a nice ring in that voice of yours” said the visitor whose voice sounded clear, and unnecessarily loud.

Nairne turned his head to side, still affixing some stray feathers but catching sight of the dragon currently sitting by his side. Guardian. New member, or a guest, but still a loud one at that. Nairne looked up at him, his head feathers raising up and down fastly in a sign of acknowledging but not voicing a proper introduction.

The guardian seemed dissatisfied with the reply and so he leaned lower to poke at the side of the coatl with one claw. “C'mon! Not even a thanks for the compliment? At least grace me with a name to call you with so I can name my songs properly when inspiration strikes”.

“That was a thanks” Nairne scoffed at the guardian.

“Ohh, you really can talk! I thought sirens would be more about whisper, mumble growl and hum of odd things and such”

“W-what?”, The coatl got taken aback and stood up abruptly almost slipping down to the pond but catching himself in time, “you..? Know of my kind?”

“Well, yeah? We are clanmates after all, no?” The guardian nodded to him as if that could simply answer all questions.

Nairne’s head feathers lowered in contemplation. He barely talked to other of his clanmates and of his few acquainted friends only his teacher knew most about his family and kind. Either the guardian had encountered someone like him before (and somehow gotten out alive) or he was a very observant and inquisitive one; Nairne gave a firm look to the guardian and saw the recognizable yellow color in his eyes. Light one, figures.

“Oh, don’t give me that face” the guardian poked a claw at Nairne’s cheek with playful intent, “I don’t speak feather sign language and your regular voice is real nice, I wanna hear that stuff more. Name’s Garibaldi, by the way.” Garibaldi finished, holding his right hand towards the coatl, smiling sincerely at him.

Nairne stared at the offered palm then at the guardian who still had his smile on. It was in no way forced and he looked firm even in his relaxed position, the dragon exuded great confidence Nairne could only wish to achieve. He focused back at the hand and took it for a brief shake before replying, “Nairne”. Garibaldi’s face almost glowed in enthusiasm and nodded happily at the reply. Nairne only gave a slight eye roll and chuckle at the other’s expressions, ‘he acts too much like a juvenile wind dragon for his kind’.

“Nice meeting ya’, so…, as you saw I kind of crashed in on your small concert so sorry for that…ehh…” Garibaldi cut his rambling short to lower himself closer to Nairne’s side as much as his bulk could let , “don’t mind me being, like, this close?”, The coatl shook his head, “great!, I’m mighty tired of running and gliding around,” the guardian sighed pleasantly as he tucked his wings. Nairne hummed, taking note of the colored patches at the tips and parts of the guardian’s wings, the guardian giggled at the other dragon who kept staring at his 'fixes’ with a hint of worry, “nah, pal. Those are scars of long ago, they no longer cripple me. I might as well make them look pretty for the ladies, huh?”

The coatl admired the handiwork, it was no masterpiece but he also didn’t knew much of those kinds of arts to voice his opinion, “is good for me”.

The guardian made a small shocked gasp, “never would I have ever thought I could make a terrifying siren delight with my rags! An achievement, truly!” He said moving a claw to his face as if removing tears off his eyes, giggling all the way.

Growing up in a poor family, Thomas was raised by a single mother. Always ambitious, he worked hard until he could afford to go to law school.
