I forgot to post this for Naminé Week Day 3 but every day is Naminé appreciation
So a friend told me about Naminé week, and so I had to make a little ficlet, a little drabble to celebrate my favorite Nobody, a little angst. Here’s the fic on ao3 for those interested: https://archiveofourown.org/works/36641866
White Walls were all Namine was allowed to know, white surrounding, choking her, searing hot like the sun she could never see, burning her whenever she stood from that small chair in the center of the room. (She never knew whether it was because of the empty smiles from the sweet smells, or the man who smelled like soot and blood.) Her world was small, twisted images born from the memories of the others in the world, the only color in 3 (inches, feet, miles, what was distance when one couldn’t walk but a mile in another’s shoe), captured in images that she struggled to recreate, memories she wanted to be in but could never touch, failing to capture something… human, the others were able to replicate.
She never could.
Too pale, too blurry on the edges. She was only real when she saw him, the boy in too bright red and yellows, the boy on green grass and yellow road, the boy surrounded by blue skies and warm smiles. Never in her room, only another white thing in a field of white stone.
A ball of Ice, according to the man who never cared enough to stay in the room, memories dancing across its transparent surface, and whenever Namine focused on it, whatever memories she wanted appeared in it. The Chill never seemed to like being with it, seemingly thinking it was broken, barely working, but Namine spent as much time in the green grass by that boy’s side, watching.
She felt whole, the guilt of flowers and flame leaving.
She could be that which he lost, and he would let her be that which she wasn’t.
She never questioned why Vexen never seemed annoyed with the orb afterwards.
“Hey, Riku, don’t you think that its a shame we lost so much after we moved?”
Namine stood alone in a room, white and blank and made just for her. DiZ asked if she was sure she needed a room like this, if she couldn’t simply use the mansion’s broken rooms, but she wasn’t used to the cold of the wood outside white marble, not used to how the floor no longer burned, no longer was so terrifying that she could no longer walk. She despised it, slipping into darkness like water, no sensation, only the face of her best friend. Her only friend. Repliku, as she began to think of him in her head, was in shambles, and yet his body was not aging, nor decaying, and maybe that was the reason Namine was not so afraid of him, for he existed as little as her.
But he could never respond, never talk back, just like she could never be a part of the worlds that Sora would live in, become a part of moments.
But they both watched, broken, pondering but a simple orb, hoping that the world would reveal itself and fix them. But Namine knew, they would stay just as broken.
The Replica slumped over, unable to hold itself, and Namine couldn’t help but wish to be so helpless.
Perhaps then the orb would not need be seen.
Maybe she could walk like Man, without burning or freezing.
