Arrow 1x15: Nanda Parbat thoughts
- Apparently the Lazarus Pit is now a hot tub.
- I'd say having a bow and arrow in a swordfight would be a huge advantage.
- As soon as Diggle leaves, Merlyn calls him "Dig." Sure, why not?
- Last week, Thea and Sara were portrayed as friends, even though they had barely any scenes together. I don't see any better connection with Thea and Laurel.
- Okay, Laurel accepted that waaaaay too fast. Standing across from her is the woman who fired three arrows into her sister. Even she ultimately doesn't blame Thea for it, there is no way anyone can absorb that that fast.
- Casual reference to the prior romance between Oliver and Laurel. Interesting.
- What exactly is the point of Laurel switching between black and red lipstick?
- Maseo's kid is super annoying.
- How come Arrow has access to Ra's Al Ghul's character, but not Talia's?
- Okay, Oliver has exploding arrows. He literally just had to shoot the helicopter from his motorcycle and then GTFO.
- Where the hell did that cage come from?
- So if Oliver had no intention of torturing Nyssa, why did everyone have to leave?
- Diggle keeps kicking people out of places.
- Okay, so Oliver went one-on-one with Ra's because Merlyn threatened to show Ra's the video of Thea killing Sara. Then Thea turned Merlyn over to the League, and since Merlyn, in his own twisted way, does love Thea, he won't actually show Ra's the video. Thus, Nyssa is convinced it was Merlyn who directly killed Sara. Doesn't that mean that Ra's has no quarrel with Oliver or Thea then? This whole mess is because someone killed Merlyn, and the League thinks it's Merlyn.
- A deal's a deal? Wasn't five hours of sleep part of the bargain?
- And this is why Diggle should be in the field, not Laurel (or Roy, arguably).
- If Merlyn is suspended with no support from the bottom, how are his arms at an angle?
- I honestly thought Diggle was going to ask Oliver to be Sara's godfather.
- Maseo must be like, "You moron."
- Nothing like sex to get the mental juices flowing.
- And introducing DC's Iron Man.
- Why would Oliver let Thea know the code to the cage?
- Not much of a cliffhanger. We all know Oliver won't accept.
In Defense of So Many Things
So, it's been a few days since the episode of "Nanda Parbat" aired. There's been a lot of hate and a lot of flailing going on. Now, I am one who has always loved Olicity and still feel like they are endgame, that being said I totally appreciate Raylicity. Olicity has had such a complicated journey. It's not just about shipping or them being together romantically, it's the moments. The moments that will eventually lead them to being together in the end. If you look back from beginning and really think about it, Oliver was a jerk to Felicity a lot during season one (though in his defense, he's a jerk to a lot of people). They have their adorable moments, but Olicity isn't really fully awesome (in my opinion) until season two. "City of Heroes" is still one of my absolutely favorite episodes. Season three has definitely been rocky and I think up until we hit "The Climb", things were angsty and hard...but there was this hope. After "The Climb" we had a very broken Team Arrow. Some people had seemed to accept that Oliver was dead and gone and Felicity just wasn't ready. Diggle and Roy lashed out at her for her decision to close the door to keep them from going after Brick and his men, which she felt would have resulted in them dying. Unable to accept or handle another loss of someone so close to her in her life, I think we can easily consider them family. These was definitely this fracture and things just weren't the same. I think that that pushed Felicity a bit away from Team Arrow (even though she comes back and says she's going to work with them, even without Oliver later). During this time (and in episodes before) Ray is there for her. If she wants to talk and even if she doesn't. He, of course, doesn't appreciate Felicity speaking for Anna...but I think that's pretty fair of him. It wasn't like Felicity knew Anna. They have definitely had a connection and re-watching "The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak", you can really see it. Except for his initial tries to recruit Felicity to Queen Consolidated/Palmer Technologies, Ray has been completely supportive and has shown that he definitely values Felicity. There was that kiss that ended up having some awkwardness that followed, but Ray opening up to her about Anna sort of fixed that all. His line where he tells Felicity "I truth your judgement, in fact, I pretty much depend on it" and then "Sometimes I forget that we work together. When I'm with you, it's just you." Let's be honest, if Oliver ever said these things to Felicity...we'd definitely be there. Now, let me address the whole 'Ray Palmer is creepy' stuff. Let's all think about this. Most people would call Ray dedicated or driven as far as trying to attain a new employee. But most of the stuff that he's done that's resulted in him being referred to as 'creepy' is something that Felicity's done at one time or another. Oliver did a lot of pushing of Felicity away. Did she say that she doesn't want to be a woman that he loves? Yes. Was she completely valid in saying that? Absolutely. She's also told him that she's done waiting for him. That she wants more in life. So, can we really fault her for going forward in a relationship (even if it's short term) with Ray Palmer? I don't think so. Ray's been there for her and she obviously cares about him. They have chemistry (that is completely different than what she has with Oliver) and they definitely operate on an intellectual level. Felicity is probably the most human, the heart, and the one that people relate to. So, why would you wait for someone who apparently can't be with you (even if you both love each other) when there's someone who's willing to move forward instead of backwards? That just doesn't make sense. Let Felicity be happy in the now. I kept feeling like Oliver was banishing Felicity in the last episode, Diggle kept staying behind every time to talk to Oliver and she was left out. I felt like if it was season two, it would be the original three together no matter what was going to happen. Now, I know that there's HUGE possibilities as to WHY Oliver might try to push Felicity away and distance himself from her. The biggest being that he's hurt and he KNOWS she's hurt. This is all hard on all of them. There's also the fact that it seems like more and more people are finding out that Felicity is Oliver's greatest weakness (and strength) and he's hoping that by pushing her away that he might spare her from being used by others in the future. There's just a lot. I'm very interested to see where they will be once he returns and tells them about the offer that Ra's al Ghul made to him. How will that sit with Felicity and how that will impact Olicity? Now, Olicity and WHEN it should happen has been discussed a lot. I know that David Ramsey has even stated that Felicity and Oliver basically can't successfully happen until Oliver gets his stuff all figured out. I think we can all agree this is true. This season's theme is identity and we still have several more episodes to go! A lot of stuff is supposed to happen between now and the finale. Maybe Oliver will take over the League of Assassins (I'm not seeing this, but you never know) or maybe he'll finally figure out that Felicity knows him a lot better than he wants to admit and that they're so much better together. Olicity is endgame, no matter what, we know that. It's just the journey and sometimes the journey is hard. It's all worth it in the end. So, what does this all wrap up to mean? Olicity is coming. It's just not here yet. What do you do in the meantime? Follow the stuff that smoakandarrow posts about Olicity. Post what you LIKE about Olicity and Team Arrow and what you MISS seeing. Posting hate is just fueling buzz, even if it's negative, it's still buzz. Ray Palmer isn't sticking around and he's not taking Felicity with him, so keep that in mind. You can ship Olicity and adore/appreciate/ship Raylicity at the same time. Olicity is still endgame.
