SARGEANT WINS FEATURE-LESS RACE
Logan Sargeant took his first F3 victory, dominating a feature race that was significantly lacking in action.
Jake Hughes followed him home and Liam Lawson took the last step on the podium, as his chances of stealing P2 were dashed by some double-waved yellows at the main overtaking area at Stowe on the final lap.
The result means the American takes the championship lead away from his team mate Oscar Piastri, ahead of tomorrow’s Sprint Race.
The race started with all the cars getting away well, with Hughes taking P2 around the outside, that turned into the inside line at The Loop, but the Brit was unable to close up to the leader at any point in the race.
Jack Doohan’s promising qualifying result quickly turned into disappointment, dropping back from P8 on lap two with front wing damage - the Australian the victim of more rotten luck.
The second lap also saw Bent Viscaal get wide on the exit of Becketts and Chapel and dropped behind the Trident of David Beckmann, whilst Dennis Hauger’s disappointing weekend continued, he came into the pits to become the first retirement of the race.
Lap four saw the Jenzer’s make contact at Stowe, with Calan Williams hitting Frederico Malvestiti and tipping him into a spin, both drivers also went on to retire from the race.
Piastri came through the field after a disappointing qualifying, he took P8 from Zendeli with an opportunist move through Club.
Theo Pourchaire continued to attack Frederik Vesti for P4, selling him the dummy, Mansell-esque, down the Hangar Straight. But it proved unsuccessful with Vesti keeping it planted on the outside of Stowe, Pourchaire was then edged out and fell behind Beckmann dropping to P6.
Bent Viscaal then took that P6 at Brooklands as Pourchaire was edged out once more after going on the attack trying to get back past Beckmann, a frustrating and unlucky day for the Frenchman.
Pourchaire then took retook P6 from Viscaal at Stowe, with Piastri following through again at Club, with the Australian then looking to get past the ART.
The final laps were dominated by the battle for P2 between Hughes, Lawson and Vesti, with the battle for P6 also raging behind.
However despite some close runs and cars darting over the track, there were no late moves, with a lot of hopes dashed on the final laps thanks to Matteo Nannini and Sebastian Fernandez making contact at Stowe - sending both cars off into the gravel. Fernandez was able to continue but Nannini was beached, making it a triple DNF for the Jenzer team.
