yall have no fucking idea how hype it is when a game actually puts Mayan inspiration into a section
i had the BIGGEST hyperfixation on Mayan mythology and culture when i was younger, even bigger than the mandatory greek mythology phase i had.
i rarely see the Mayan civilization mentioned at all in games, much less deep diving into it. i recently started replaying Indivisible and remembered (one of) my favorite areas of the game(Tai Krung shares the spot). Indivisible, as conflicted as i feel about the game entirely, dove wholeheartedly into implementing a game area chock-full of it. The area being named Kaanul reinforces it from minute one.
By far though, my favorite moment was when they introduced Hunoch and Xiboch, characters unapologetically inspired by the Mayan Hero Twins. These two Tlatchlibol players even ask you to help them with getting back the head of one of them, which had been decapitated by a bat creature named Camazotz. Why'd he get decapitated? They were hunting said bat creature because the Lords of the Underworld had set them up to fail after they challenged the Lords to Tlatchlibol to avenge their dead father and uncle. AND they have distinct sun and moon themes, referencing how the Hero Twins became the sun and moon!!
a lot of architecture and designs in Kaanul and The Haven resemble a lot of Mayan architecture as well :D i just think it's really awesome and directly throws a rock at a dormant hyperfixation of mine to wake it up
