the farmhouse was gorgeous. benji did not quite know what to expect from an old korean farm, but, he was happy he got what he got. the house was beautiful, and seemed old. it was very much loved by nari’s huge family. he thought it a shame that he did not get to meet all of the members, and still, with many of her siblings missing, it felt incredibly full.
the day was long and filled since dawn with animals, bugs, and nari. she was, of course, the highlight of it all. despite a sweet, hot summer’s day, she rocked everything she did. she cleaned the animal’s habitats well, she fed the animals well, and even collected the chicken’s eggs well. benji wished he had helped her and wasn’t so afraid of birds. despite all of her hard work, she never seemed to break a sweat. maybe that was because it was still early in the morning when they were working. now, it was the afternoon, when the sun truly began to beat down.
benji regretted wearing his usual outfit. he thought jeans, a green shirt, and his demin jacket would be perfect for the type of place he was going. actually, it was the worst. his legs sweated so much he could feel them sticking to the jeans. he wondered if he would ever be able to pull them off. the jacket he wore, too, was sticking to his forearms. he wanted to take it off, but, decided not to. he was, truthfully, afraid of not being able to get out of it. for a little while longer, he would keep it on.
the house, the work, and the sticky denim were all small things. the biggest, of all, was that gorgeous forest behind nari’s house. it was the perfect place for shade, even if the air was still hot, and went on forever. he loved the woods. he wished he lived in them.
“this place is beautiful,” benji spoke as they walked. they had not gone too far into the woods yet, but far enough so that nari’s house was getting blurrier in the distance. “thank you for taking me out here,” he swallowed. he fixed his t-shirt’s collar, “it’s, uh, kind of hot, though. we should have brought water.” he smiled at her.
